Just curious, but if a kingdom takes a population center from another kingdom, why would they not expect retaliation to transpire? Because it complicates things?

The early goal is to take control of your region. You generally start by owning a town in your region and either 1 or 2 villages. Your other town, and sometimes 1 village, are outside your region. Likewise, someone else starts with a village or town in "your" region. It is generally accepted that you will take those from them to take your region, and likewise they will take the far away ones from you to secure their region. Often, we talk about it, to give the player time to double-tax it (get a little extra production before giving it up). Every now and then, someone says don't take my village or town or it will mean war. That is ok also. But, like in Risk, early war usually hurts both parties' development, unless you are the RD or GI and need to expand quickly to even survive.

I am willing to ransom you back your ambassador for the enormous sum of one gold piece. If you want your agent back as well, that will require another order, so 100 gold the following turn.

I found your town in my region, and I am sending an emmy there to take it. If you want extra income before you lose it, please tax it in 2 turns. I believe that the order is 240. You will get 2X the gold that it produces but it causes you to lose control of the PC.

Maximus, this is standard communication between kingdoms. It doesn't mean that we are at war or anything--just a little friendly communication.

It is more of a courtesy since early war rarely works out well. However, there is no rule that you have to give up your PC in someone else's region. Some people will negotiate resource share agreements if the game rules allow, in order to keep the pop center in someone else's region. However, keeping your pop center in someone else's region without their consent is generally considered a hostile act and will most likely lead to a war between the two.

I see your little patrol in my territory, getting ready to poach an artifact from my region. Please reconsider and exit without it.

You are in MY territory on a location of MY artifactr. Since you are new, I will make you this offer: Leave without the artifact, and I will let you live. You must respond to this post in a timely manner, otherwise I will attack.

Truth. The Lizards are truly the terrible, territorial tyrants. Threatening a newbie on turn 6 for exploring an artifact he probably learned as part of his first ever setup. Shame.

Just now reading this forum message.

The artifact just happened to be there. I was in the process of pulling the army back, per Rellgar's advice to me a couple of turns back. I inadvertently missed last turn, due to real world/family socializing. I just never made it back home in time to finish filling out my turn orders. So, for me, last turn probably only got about 3 of my initial turn orders processed. I'd have to double check, to be sure.

And now, you have attacked me. Yeah, that whole Turn 7 Propaganda that I read about elsewhere turned out to be one of those, "fool me once, fool me twice" kinds of things. A learning process, indeed!

You're attacking a kingdom that literally is still trying to learn the "language of this game." The advantage, accordingly, lies with you. However, just as there's more than one way to skin a cat, likewise, there's more than one way to deal with a lizard.

Anyone in this game that wants to coordinate with The Forgotten, until such time as my kingdom in this game ceases to be, feel free to message me directly. The Lizard Queen will likely seek to devour my kingdom's assets. That's not really in the interests of other kingdoms that might be wary of the lizard men. The term lizard men is an oxymoron, is it not? Can they not make up their mind what they even are? I say this, being the forgotten race, the forgotten kingdom, The Forgotten.

Having already spent most all of my kingdom's gold, I can't even issue a full set of orders. No one's fault but my own, and my distaste for this sort of approach to issuing commands/orders to characters extends back to my limited Fall of Rome days.

I'm just trying to get my kingdom on its feet, and now war, itself, has come to my door. I have a few assets available to me, still. Perhaps others can and will aid me in rising to be a better, more capable foe to these half-lizard, half-men whatever the hell that they are. My kingdom is going to go down in flames to someone. Killing lizards on the way out is as good of a way to go, as any.

Ironically enough, in Hyborian War, I don't play to win the game, as that was a very anti-climactic experience, back in HW-165. Instead, I play to help others lose. I would like, very much if at all possible, to help Windbag's lizards lose. Being cold-blooded, the lizards naturally sought out what they perceived to be weak prey. Even weak prey can wound, though.
