If we went to a ready button it would be nice if there was a way to submit/save orders without having the turn run early.

That way if you know you are going to be too busy to play for several days you don't have to worry about the next due date actually moving up on the calendar.

I might play a solo anon game at a faster pace but find that a slower game works better for me when I am trying to communicate with teammates.

Could just be me,  everyone has different time obligations.

Example for you so you can get my meaning:

Turn runs on Tuesday the  15th.  I open it and hastily submit orders on the 15th.

Those orders will process on the 21st and the next turn will be run on the 25th.  If I am AFK I don't have to open that turn and do anything until the 24th.

If the turn ran early on the 17th the next turn might be due on the 21st.  That was what I was trying to avoid.

Maybe the suggested system would allow turns to be submitted but not processed early unless ready was checked.  If so, that is what I was looking for.

I'm not certain that I am following you, Hawk. This is how the Ready Button worked in Fall of Rome.

- You do your turn and feel good about them. Hit READY.
- You change your mind and since not all the players have hit ready, you can edit them. Hit READY again.
- The last player hits READY, the turn runs.

Rinse and repeat.

If you don't hit the ready button until 2 minutes before your turn runs, it doesn't run early. Once it does run, the 96-hours starts over.

Hawk:

Your first scenario is correct. If you never hit the "Ready Button" in your 4/4/6 scenario above, then the schedule would stay 4/4/6....no change.

Everyone (all players) would have to say "I am Ready" for it to run early. If ONE person does NOT click it, then the schedule does not change.

OK.  sounds like a good feature to try.

How often did FOR run early?

It really depended on the game. In a standard game the turnaround was 3 days and the majority of the time it would run between the 2nd and 3rd day. Lord Diamond used to set up special games for players (similar to Warlords or Titan games) and some of those would run daily or even every hour over the weekends.

It also really depended on the slowest player in the game (by slowest, I mean the person with the least amount of free time in their schedule to devote to the game).

There were more than a few games where we were all "if I eliminate this guy, the game will run a lot faster! Hurry up, Alamanni, or I'm coming for you!" There were a few other turns where I bitched about a slow player until the game ran as normal only to realize that I had forgotten to hit my Ready button.

It isn't fool proof.

I would be thrilled with just twice a week turns. Seriously, I would stop complaining. Smile
