NON-COORDINATION: the true meaning of anonymous
#21
Would it be possible to join a game and not get coordinated attacks by a 3 vs 1 (or worse) and if playing in an Anon game no contact means no contact (assume the other empires are some sort of non understanding AI).  Call it a Role play server or some other name.  Would it also be possible to have a competitive game type where the players push the limits of the program to win. I do realize that some players want to use every assets they can to win and want to match their skills against others who think the same way.  This could be called a competitive game or something like that.  Would this allow enough players to play with parameters the game cannot provide and still have a type of game for those who are really competitive?

3rd Cycle will likely offer a 'Secret Victory Condition' (that needs a name change) that doesn't actually end the game, but may result in status points, possibly podium spots, and maybe in-game benefits. It will be somethimg else to strive for on the way to a Rex or Lion's Share victory. Maybe like a Late Strategic Objective. This doesn't address you concern directly, but it gives you something else to work towards.

I doubt that your non-war version would get much traction in a regular 12-player game, but I could see some sort of Primeval thing happening. Get five players together and promise not to attack anything flying a player flag. Then you can gather status points using anything other method at your disposal.

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Steel anonymous 305 turn 2
"Trade The Ancient Ones gifted the Troll with a large supply of food." (they allied on turn 1)

Apparently it wasn't fixed as announced (suggested?) in this thread. I must admit that I find this blatant cooperation really annoying.

I would guess they are not actually working together but letting each other know they do not want to fight each other. Everyone knows the TR wants food so AN is making him happy.

Basically the players that share a region either fight or make nice. So they declare ally and hope the other responds.

The non-coordination rules that are common house rules in Warlords and team games do NOT apply to general anonymous games. This is because otherwise, the players who are stuck sharing a region at game start would be even more disadvantaged than they already are.

This is accurate imo.

In another Anon game I have given unilateral transfers with no intention to do anything more than that. I have little interest in that positions outcome and really just bought myself some time Or reciprocated Or deceived them.

In another game I declared allies and then did not send the other player anything and will likely attack them.

No collusion.
