Strategies for uncovering hidden capitals
#11
What about summon death? Smile

Summon death has always been part of the game. It should likely be 1/2 as effective with a P9 version that is at the current level

Well, we can talk about this, both the hidden capitals and where the military kingdoms stand.

I like the hidden capitals, and the idea of them being a haven.  But I don't think every kingdom should have them.  Yes, the concept came with introducing the Atlantians, but then also the Amazons are legendary and were another kind of Nomad, who also have the Hidden Oasis.  Then it just seemed to make sense for a number of others, like the Druid and obviously the Illusionist, whose inclusion cemented the idea.

The military kingdoms: you have to fight.  You can't fret about your magical power.  Get to P3 if you can, but exploit the advantage you have in battle.  I saw an Amazon group of 4 veteran Amazons and 1 veteran Westmen just annihilate a small army group by flanking in the plains.  The Red Dragons have avoided the Dwarves once the Dwarves have the ability to barrage.

I know there will be some rebuttal that the military lags late in the game.  Essentially, having thought this thing out, that's how it goes.  If you are a military kingdom: strike.  If you are a wizard kingdom, stay out of the way.  If you are a balanced kingdom, you judge the wind.  If you are a special kingdom like UN, DE or AN, you figure it out as you go.

I think hidden Capitol is over powered.  I think you should be able to trail groups to locate the Capitol.  I also think you should be able to cast locate character to find them.

Both of these orders already have counters-  don't leave a group at the Capitol unless it is in ambush.  And ward any agent or Emmy that is being forced to relocate.

seriously, hidden capitals are too easy to find.

In the slugfest, there they were difficult as PCs were next to each other. I have yet to find a hidden capital that was touching another PC. Based on that you shouldn't have any issues finding it.

The idea of moving emmies to random spots as a search is helpful.  I had not considered that idea until now.

The point is you have at most 5 spots to search unless there happens to have 2 hidden capitals, even then its not hard.

Now the slugfest game.... that was difficult.

And honestly I believe the randomization done for PCs should be thrown out for the hidden capital and it should just validate there isn't a PC already at the location. Then it would truly be hidden.

Hidden Capitals are never next to other PC's? Has this been a confirmed fact?

I thought JF said he had a hidden capital next to a PC in a Duel game we played but maybe I misunderstood or maybe that doesn't translate to full games?
-This Khal Drogo, it's said he has a hundred thousand men in his horde

They do happen.  Just like normal.  A PC tries to be placed not next to others but sometimes it happens.  I have had a WA Capital next to another PC and a current single player game the same with another kingdom.   HP still will inform if there is a hidden PC so at least you know to look.

I agree with Atuan though I find it pretty easy to find them generally.

I also find hidden capitals rather easy to find. They maybe buy you 2-3 turns of safety if someone actually invests orders into finding out where you are. The only problem is when a hidden capital spawns next to another PC; that makes things MUCH more challenging.

Like stated earlier, this is exemplified in the 20-man slugfest game where it's improbable for hidden PCs NOT to spawn next to other PCs, making them incredibly difficult to find.
