Game 5005 - Forum communication

Admittedly I thought a Pagan game would be fun and nice and slow....of course 24 turns is quite limiting. But here we are with 7 turns left and I find 3 US'. Too late in the game to investigate? Not sure, stupid curiosity. Especially with the BL making an appearance in Synisvania. (And I thought we were friends...ok, maybe not friends....mild acquaintances with some trust issues....but not outright enemies....for shame on you Mr. B. Dragon)

I have scoured the lands for artifacts and they seem few and far between in this game.

What with the EL assassinating my emmissaries and heroes and wizards i now want this game to end. It is no longer fun.

During an invasion, one is supposed to hamstring an opponent. Sorry, but that is part of an attack. I will do my best to end the game soon Smile.

Glad it is over, but I'd like to know what the BL and DE were doing this entire time? I didn't see the DE all game, although that is a good thing and the BL took my starting pc's in Runnimede and Amberland (understandable) and then this turn took Jukunta with a military group.

This turn, I found 3 more US'....so I had 6 unexplored (did just get the Armor of Anon this turn though.)

Well, hope to see you all in other games.

Playing the game and winning the game are often two different things. I don't play primeval games because there to short and to win you throw out much of the fun in game development.

I agree, but I was wondering what the other kingdoms were doing. I saw that the DE had a lot of P6's setting on the border of Amberland.

I struggled early on. Not use to playing primarily military kingdoms. With all of the changes there seems to be a myriad of things you can possibly do.

Congratulations to Vball on yet another win as the Elves on turn 18.

As the Black Dragons, I could not decide what to do this game after taking Amberland and Runnimede. I sort of moved into Arcania but then I felt that either the TY was going to invade Runnimede (he did try to denigrate me there in my own region) or the DE was going to invade Amberland. So, I moved all of my emissaries and groups back to Amberland then sent groups into Eastern to slow down the Demons, then showed up and took Jukanta in Synisvania, and then the game was over. VBM went from 2 regions to 4 very quickly, maybe 3 turns, not enough time to react. Well done.

Canticar and I danced around each other a bit in Amberland and Eastern (I was lucky enough to land at his launching town, blocking in 6 barons who were set to invade). But his domes were too strong, so I would siege for a bit then run away from his wizards to another region. I was lucky enough to capture a Demon Prince, probably the only good thing that happened. But the Black Dragons are very mobile. Without domes to counter, these dragons could cause some damage. Maybe next time I focus on a non-magic kingdom, but I did not want to pick on the Tyrant as he took far away regions and was a little behind everyone else on developing in this game.

Anyway, good game all and I look forward to future contests.

As Pirate the challenges were many. I took advantage to the fleets i had in all seas to build them all up and increase revenue. I advanced my agents to high levels but they seem seldom successful except for this last turn when i finally snatched one of EL many princes, how many did you have, 6? I spent 5 turns to finally gain 2 Pow 6 wizards but it was too late to use them. I only managed to have 18 brigades in this game. I found the site of the sword of Elan at TF and knew the EL had the key of the slayer. I stopped at SF for another UE but the item was gone. I was headed to get the Staff of the Great Orator next. I like the artifacts and enjoy hunting them but i searched all of Arcania and Torvale to only find 4 items and was suspicious that TY and EL and BL had gathered some up. PI was difficult for me to play and the dispersed kingdom seemed to set me back for first 3 turns.

Primeval was designed as an introduction to Alamaze.  It is way more forgiving on mistakes, at least early on.  So for new players, they aren't necessarily getting blasted in the early turns.  And it started with a standard setup of the four corner kingdoms and a mentor in the middle.  Now we allow players to pick what kingdoms they want.

We also have had experienced player Primeval games.

Probably we should continue to separate players in Primeval by experience.  I mean, new players are expecting to beat the crowned Alamaze Champion?  This is like in your second game of chess you think you will beat a rated chess master.  Except Alamaze is a lot more complicated than chess.

We now also have DUELS for the recommended first experience for new players.  And a fun quick game for frenemies.

Some Alamaze players have played for decades.  They are good.  Would it make sense that they are losing to new players?  What would that say about the game - mostly luck?

I know we have a hard cadre of some of our players that play to win.  I understand.  But I feel Alamaze is best enjoyed as a strategic adventure game and if you win, great, but most players never will.  Have fun exploring and seeing the drama on the map.  For one, your odds with everything equal in a 12 player game are just 8%.  It's sort of like winning the Super Bowl in the NFL.  You need a great team, a great coach, lots of things to break your way, and probably some mishaps for your main rivals.
