game 551 full diplomacy

I wish we could have some more enforceable kind of diplomatic agreements, and fewer "Game Long Naps", which as said by other experienced players in this thread, does seem sort of like taking a nap.

The Gray Mouser, a player of no great repute, generally might offer a 12 turn non aggression agreement, perhaps information exchange.  Then based on the situation, perhaps agree on a new agreement.

Imagine if Game of Thrones had forever NAPS.  Its a killer to drama.  These game long naps also kill off the drama in Alamaze.  How can we change this?  Especially the strategy of trying to get NAP's with all neighbors and then getting all who agree to attack the one who doesn't.

The closest I have come is to better expand the idea of royal marriage, universally reported, and enforced through the code.  But informal, secret agreements are not enforceable and are understood that way, that you can't shame the player for an unofficial understanding.

Starting on Turn 10, the game generates three "enemies" for each kingdom (could be random, could be geographical neighbors, etc., I'll leave that to the designers) which are reported on your turn report only. If you take their region and/or take X of their PCs, and/or engage in X battles with one or more of those listed enemies then you gain substantial bonus status points. However, no kingdom "must" attack any of these enemies; you can completely disregard/ignore the three enemy list and not act on it at all. However, you miss out on all the potential bonus points which some of the other kingdoms are likely to be capitalizing on.

This process is repeated again on Turn 20 and Turn 30 with different enemy lists. So if you overextend yourself with NAPs, you're missing out on a lot of bonus status points.

You could also make this an "option" for a game and not all games.

Just a thought.

I like this idea. This gives early military kingdoms more attractiveness.

Then, again, Maelstrom may address the potency of mages.

Maybe look to see if a system like this would fit into the Maelstrom?

My thoughts are that if you NAP up with too many players, you pay the consequences later in the game. I for one am now beginning to make a real effort on limiting the amount of contact I make with players in diplomacy games to avoid situations like the one I am dealing with in G551.

Tomag....I know what you mean. Too many NAP's is what gets me in trouble every time. Planning ahead, I think about the direction I want to go, make a NAP with one neighbor to secure a border and then a turn or 2 later the other neighbor contacts me. Then I fear that if I don't respond or I do and decline, it gives him/her the heads-up. So I end up making another NAP and I'm pretty boxed in and spend the rest of the game building my region to do absolutely nothing.

This is why I'm starting to prefer the anon games.

I prefer Anon games because I get accused of things that never happened. The Pirates claim I took a Village from them in Amberland, I just double checked every turn and that never happened, He attacked me completely unprovoked on turn 15. But that is Ok, this is a war game and I expect to fight, to the last man, every time. You will have to take me out as I will not quit. I will also always be good to my word and never make excuses for attacking somebody, I do wish to win one one day.

I'd like to play a game with Wade someday. I respect a guy that will fight to his last breath.... or when playing the Necro, a long time after his last breath.

The Necro does not require breath.

Atuan, leader of the Nomad kingdom has won by Usurper Victory (control 3 or
more regions and substantial or better in 2 regions), regards to all who
made this game an exciting contest.
Congradulations to Atuan for winning. Sneaky sneaky
