The game is on the Game Queue for whenever the draft starts.
If someone is out there that wants to play but is scared of picking #1, just post that and likely someone will trade spots.
Meanwhile I would say picking 1, you consider your region and figure a kingdom not likely selected in the top 10 of 24 available that would still fit there. Or that you want, say, the Demon Princes, the not quite consensus favorite yet, but pick #1 you get them, and that's a kingdom that I don't think much matters what region you start in. Several scenarios like that. I'd also say a couple times the Red Dragons have been picked in not ideal regions, like coastal regions where they really can't defend a number of sea PC's. Rather than say they can't compete in Maelstrom I'd say you could get them now as late as #24. Or you can bank on the last region in early drafts, Zamora, which likely will win one of the first 5 games, being available and pick a kingdom that would work there. As we say with 24 to the 12th power, it is a virtually unlimited number of combinations.
Again, you might also have a slot available, or ready to move up to Warrior or Commander and I would guess it will be a couple weeks after this one starts until the next. Last chance.
