We certainly were not looking to target a weaker team. Plus, if anybody pays attention, I'm usually the idiot who goes straight at the strongest player on the board.
Yeah you and me both my friend. In many things not just Alamaze... I suspect I have what's called a "low need to achieve" which means failure doesn't effect me much, and a win against normal circumstances doesn't do much for me either. I need to win against big odds for it to be satisfying.
A friend of mine, I noticed, is quite the opposite. High need to achieve... seems like he will only play something he has a good chance of winning, and wont play otherwise... he would never play a game of chess with me.
I find that interesting. I had never heard that postulation (I didn't want to say argument) Sort of a turtle thing. The ecologists say if it weren't for somehow there are humans, that turtles would be the dominant species. One daughter went to Maryland: "Turtle, turtle, turtle."
There is another "need" we learned in psych 101. Need for affiliation. For me, that is low as well. I'm perfectly content living alone with one or two friends I can call, I dislike crowds. I suspect something, whether natural or not, has dampened my reward system. Similarly, I have experimented with various addictive phenomenon and have never had any inclination to continue use. My friend, with the high need to achieve, also becomes addicted easily, nicotine, video games, pot. I've never read anything about this, its not my field, but if my interest lasted more than a few minutes, I'd definitely look it up. For 75% of people, their most important things are to be accepted in their group, and so liked. Evidence is in Meyers Briggs percentages. I am in a 2% category called INTJ.
I started as a psychology major and had four psych courses but realized you really need a PHD, and I had no means for that, so became a dual major in accounting (went to work for Coopers & Lybrand in Fort Lauderdale) and economics. And not to get too political but it is annoying that most people running the country may have not had a single economics course, but feel they can alter the economy, like taking over healthcare and changing all tax policy while somehow also thinking business is evil. After my MBA, I had been in and hopefully contributed to seven economics courses.
I as well make a distinction between friends and acquaintances. I have lots of acquaintances, but only a few people I could truly call friends. A friend is someone you can say anything to, and will still drive you to the airport. An acquaintance you have to restrict your talk to narrow bounds and know what is off-limits.

Well, I don't think its a lack of economic knowledge, for politicians, that they do things the way they do. Keynesian economics is simply an excuse to consolidate power in the government. I don't think any smart person really believes the government can more effectively utilize the wealth of a country than the people who actually create wealth. I mean, all you have to do is go on you-tube and watch Milton Freedman dismantle socialism, and that was way back in the '70s when he got his Nobel prize in economics.
