All regions are not created equally
#1
One of the many things that can trip up a new player is not "knowing"  the regions.

A major difference in regions is the number of population centers in each and hence, the amount of income that comes with each region.  All regions have at least 5 villages but some have 6 or even 7.  All regions have at least 3 towns but some have 4 or 5.

Is it any surprise that Triumvia is nearly always chosen in the first three picks when it has 7 villages, 5 towns, and a coastal major city?

Everyone can see the City of Stormgate on their starting map but a new player would not be aware that MQ, the only other square in the Stormgate region, holds the village of Cornucopia and it is the most productive village in the game is addition to having access to TWO Seas, a very unique location.

Here is a question for our programmer, the famous Uncle Mike:

Mike does the programing always create the same number of pop centers in a given region with every start up?  Or does it vary from game to game?

Don't forget the landbridge to Stormgate from Pellinor!

I've had different numbers of pop centers from old spreadsheets recently, so maybe Mike added some variable to that.

There are three distinct algorithms that are used for popcenter placement: method A, B, or C.  Rick designed each method to be unique in its allocation of pc's for a given region. Some may have more villages than normal, others more towns, others more food or gold generation, etc.

Brek, you'll see which method was chosen for a particular game by looking at the game's turn 0 logfile:

TURN 0 STARTING PC ALLOCATION METHOD --> METHOD B

Mike thanks  for revealing another of Alamaze's hidden secrets.  It makes more sense now.
Is is safe to say that all regions start with  2 player towns and a human town?  How about a neutral town?

I assume that each region has a base number of towns and villages which is different for each region. This is then adjusted by the placement method A, B or C.

I have an idea of what the base numbers are, but a new player won't.

I guess it will be Jon's call, but like Dan said, it would be useful for new players to know the base numbers.
