Wall of Flame
#1
In a recent game, I cast a wall of flame with this outcome:
  • The attacker attacked on a 3 (Determined Attack)
  • Long range and short range missle phases occured
  • I retreated
  • No mention of the wall of flame is in the reports (I checked, the spell was indeed cast and not dispelled)
  • Damage to the attacker was trivial (~1%)

What happened?

Dave,

If I'm right, enemy forces never ran through your wall. You retreated before the charge and melee phases so their forces never went through the wall. In fact, it seems you retreated before the magic phase so your wizard may not have ever cast the wall in the first place.

That does seem to fit the scenario. The spell description isn't as clear as it used to be. Thanks.

Not meaning to step on LG’s toes, as he clearly may have more knowledge on the subject than I, who was simply the runner up to the runner up, but it is extremely important to read the rulebook concerning battle phases.  A 12 brigade troop vs. a 12 brigade troop has a zillion outcomes, that’s what makes it great.
