Game 5946 - or- Yet Another DK victory

Congrats to Canticar on the victory!

The Deathknight did a good job of exploiting the Giant and me (the RA), who were fighting in Mythgar and Untamed, taking those regions from under us. I popped in and took Stormgate to hopefully delay him a bit, but no such luck.

As the Ranger, I had a very enjoyable game! I had success across the board. Some great battle reports and stunning agent successes (Ring of Invisibility + Red Elk Mount MVP).

I launched a surprise attack on the Giant and hammered him pretty well. Unfortunately, the Gnome decided to attack me the same turn, so I ended up being spread quite thin for the last third of the game. If I didn't have to react to the Giant the Gnome was up to something. Shout-out to the Giant, I did a lot of damage to him, and he kept building and coming back.

I do want to thank the Gnome for his status point contribution:

1,000  Covert      Based on Prisoner: (Gnome) King Hexa Goldgrinder At Area MP
800  Covert      Based on Prisoner: (Gnome) Prince Crumuk Stonewit At Area MP
800  Covert      Based on Prisoner: (Gnome) Prince Niklar Diamondnose At Area MP
800  Covert      Based on Prisoner: (Gnome) Prince Squee Firefoot At Area MP
800  Covert      Based on Prisoner: (Gnome) Prince Tumek Stonedeath At Area MP
800  Covert      Based on Prisoner: (Gnome) Prince Uncle Zap Firefoot At Area MP
800  Covert      Based on Prisoner: (Gnome) Princess Vivi Vankrank At Area MP
800  Covert      Based on Prisoner: (Gnome) Prince Wilson At Area MP
800  Covert      Based on Prisoner: (Gnome) Prince Yellowbeard Firefoot At Area MP

I think he had more princes than I had emissaries total!

This game also illustrated the disadvantage some kingdoms have when they cannot take a legendary pop center. I spent a good dozen turns building the strongest Ranger group I could to hit the GN capital.

Triple Warlord
p-8, p-7. p-6
Three weapon artifacts
39 brigades - 14 of which were elite (I had the full 15 troop types, making it difficult to add more to the group)
143 morale
234,000 value vs PC

Attacked the GN capital with a defense of 210,000. Got repelled with 30% losses Sad
The combat report seemed to indicate it was very close, so there is that. Certainly, I could have leveled wizards more, but then again, my troop costs were going over 120k a turn, so it's hard to take a turn to raise wizards.

Dave, are you the one who killed to of my P7 wizards back to back? If so, good job.

In this game, I ended up with 4 P9 and 2 P8 wizards, although I lost the 2 P7s and a lesser wizard due to an unfortunate mishap on an unusual sighting. In the end, I had more food and gold than I could spend--almost 2 million in gold and about 1,800,000 in food. Plus, I had a substantial 3rd army group that I was building to replace any casualties I encountered, like when the RA toasted one of my groups, and I rebuilt it over night.

Yep, killed two p-7s! I was rather surprised by my fortune. I took a few more shots but couldn't repeat the success.

I was expecting to coast home with the Lion's Share victory in this one, but I botched it. Ugh.

Congrats Canticar!

My adventure was a lot less exciting. My Druids captured region 3 quickly and then invaded the Atlantians in Nyvaria. On turn 39, we were still invading the Atlanteans.
Buggers just wouldn't quit, lol.
Seems like even in anon games Milo and I keep butting heads. But I was happy to move up to fourth as I had been trailing most of the game.

It was a fun game even if I was losing for most of it. Dave did some amazing tactics with invisible groups that crippled me. Gratz to the deathknight you choose the right time and place to strike. The only thing that kept me in the game was my legendary capital. The rangers are a military power they should be able to take a legendary PC. If he was the evil ranger he would have with no problem. But even still it looked like the ranger was fun to play.

Max damage spells for the p-8 and p-7; p-6 cast valor (no minotaurs or zamorans in the group; I was troop type limited)

Gotcha, my setups show RA still gets crack the sky, this would have been a better spell, you get the damage but the fear part of the spell would have reduced the pop defense by max 35% power lvl of wizard to max amount to be applied. Chaos would be wasted on pop but damage from a P9 tornado would be good. I know your group only had a P8 but one more turn and boom. RA doesn’t get fear so crack the sky can circumvent that.

Windstorm is basically 25% off the top on defensive value of pop. (But not really) I calculated this way. Most the pop center damage is in the archery phase. Lowest wizard.

Probably shield for next highest wizard to reduce 1st phase archery damage. That or valor which has a top limit. Both could be good.

Imo
