encourage battles
#1
Many of us (myself included) have played in games where there were very little combat between groups and gameplay has mainly been in conquering pop centers (not actually fighting another's troops).

So is there a way that we can facilitate this aspect of the game so that it would be better? If not then many of us will go thru the entire game only conquering pop centers which gets kinda boring after a while especially after a few games being played.

To remedy this, how about if the intercept radius of all kingdoms were doubled to encourage battle between groups?

If that was allowed then there will still be the limitation of a kingdom's terrain movement point cost so that would have to be addressed with something like: during an intercept order, movement cost for the kingdom is cut by 50%.

Would that work out better for everyone and encourage battles between groups? If not then does someone have a better idea or are we stuck going thru entire games only conquering pop centers for most of us?

How do you balance out kingdoms with weak military? I am sure the wizard kingdoms don't want to run into battles putting their best resources at risk.

I think it really depends on the kingdom you play. In my TR game, I've had a handful of group to group combats, and each turn 2-4 group to PC combats. In my SO game, I've avoided combat like the plague, though I did have to fight once, and it was awesome.

I think Lord Brogan is correct that there needs to be a balance because the wizard kingdoms, at least in the beginning of the game, simply can't stack up combat-wise. Later on this becomes less of an issue with summoned troops, presence from wizards, etc... but some people's playing styles lend for an avoidance of combat.

I think the game is current set up such that someone seeking combat can find it, and those seeking to avoid it can, for the most part, avoid it. It's a good blend.

Generally agree with the sentiments above, although I do think intercept radii could probably be expanded a wee bit, still requiring full move. Maybe at least as far as the group can move through its worst terrain on a forced march.

So three squares as a minimum for most (all?) Kingdoms, and four or five for some (and perhaps even seven for the BL).

I think we can look at something like HH mentioned for 3rd Cycle. We kind of want to put a bow on Classic after the September changes are in place and work on 3rd Cycle and then Kingdoms of Arcania.
