Lord Thanatos v. Head Honcho 2nd Titan match
#1
I have conceded to Head Honcho in our first Titan match.

He has agreed to a rematch and he suggested the following drafting criteria:

P1 selects
P2 selects
P2 selects kingdom for P1
P1 selects kingdom for P2
P1 selects
P2 selects
P2 selects kingdom for P1
P1 selects kingdom for P2
P1 selects
P2 selects
P2 selects kingdom for P1
P1 selects kingdom for P2

Nobody can select UN for other player and nobody can select for the other player a natural enemy of a kingdom he already controls.

With the above in mind, I select (I lost and elected to pick first with the above restrictions) . . .

The GIANT kingdom!

Now you select your kingdom and a kingdom for me (cannot be UN or WI).

I like the format. What's the thinking of taking the Giant first? Keep us apprised at how it goes.

My thought on the GI is because it is a centrally located kingdom no matter what kingdoms I play I cannot be isolated geographically.

I'm actually rethinking this... the concept I really like, but help me think this out. Is there ANY benefit to going second in this proposal?

Yes. You get to assign kingdoms to your opponent first to further constrain his ability to assign kingdoms to you that you don't prefer.

Any selection method we use benefits one player over the other. The one we presently all use benefits the second player.

Anyhow, since this is our second contest any benefit should accrue to the player who lost the last match.

I certainly don't mind giving you a benefit, in choosing whether to go first or second. I think it just behooves us to make the concept as fair as possible for future contests.

I'm not sure picking second in a standard contest is a big advantage, by the way. Ideally, any draft system should be close enough to parity to allow for comparable results and preferences.

Here, the second player always picks second for the three Kingdoms s/he gets to keep. There is a further handicap in that s/he gets saddled with the last Kingdom of the four worst remaining.

Maybe the middle bracket should be swapped? So:

P1 selects
P2 selects
P2 selects for P1
P2 selects for P1
P2 selects
P1 selects
P1 selects for P2
P1 selects for P2
P1 selects
P2 selects
P2 selects for P1
P1 selects for P2

Is that better structurally? Would that make it a tougher choice, in terms of what you think is the better order?

EDIT: Or we could do:

P1 selects
P2 selects
P2 selects
P1 selects
P2 selects for P1
P1 selects for P2
P1 selects for P2
P2 selects for P1
P1 selects
P2 selects
P2 selects for P1
P1 selects for P2

Again, just talking it out with you since this is a new concept. Thanks for your patience.

I very much like the idea of making selections for the other player. I also like your restrictions that no player may select the UN for the other player nor select for the other player a natural enemy of a kingdom already assigned to that player.

Let's move the selections for the opponent higher in the draft so we don't have a point where there is no kingdom remaining that satisfies the restrictions.

After we are done selecting for our opponent, then we reverse the selection order so that P2 selects first. We have also afforded P2 the opportunity to select first for his opponent. Is this more fair?

P1 selects
P2 selects
P2 selects kingdom for P1
P1 selects kingdom for P2
P2 selects kingdom for P1
P1 selects kingdom for P2
P2 selects kingdom for P1
P1 selects kingdom for P2
P2 selects
P1 selects
P2 selects
P1 selects

If this is acceptable, I will select first: GIANT.

You now select your kingdom plus a kingdom for me....
