Game #120 Steel with Twists, Classic Map

Yes the SVC conditions were ridiculous.

It is easy to say that looking backward. When I got my setup, I thought my ESO and SVC were really hard and I did not think I would get my ESO because it (and the SVC) depended so heavily on the actions of a kingdom way across the board. But then the Troll did some damage up there, and I was fortunate enough to help the RD in TM, and on Turn 9 I saw it was all falling into place. Sorry it ended early, but I think the Elf had no allies and did not hang around long. Hopefully, this will not be a normal occurrence.

It's frequently the case that kingdoms have to balance their own conflicts and diplomacy with what is going on around the map.

When the Darkelf gained his second region on turn 9, alarms should have gone off and local enemies reconsidered their efforts vis a vis the global balance of power.

This very well may have taken place, and players not been able to turn fast enough.

2 regions more than your at natural enemy, influence OVER 21, 3 cities, a named class of artifact as well as other artifacts, and a power 4+ wizard.

This is not an overly easy set of conditions, trying to get all of these at the same time is pretty difficult. But obviously, things came together extremely well in this case. Good diplomacy? Great allies? Just being left alone by chance?

Hopefully we'll hear about it in the post game write ups.

My main point, knowing nothing about the particulars of this game, is that sometimes kingdoms that are fighting may need to bury the hatchet to take down the front runner and sometimes there isn't much time to make that call and react.

Well played, Master Darkelf!

Don't ever be sorry for winning!

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Seriously, no one hates the game, but many are not fond of the SVC Smile

At a minimum all SVCs should need 3 regions. 2 + a random set of objectives is way too easy. Any game that ends on turn 11 is broke or someone was cheating. And I am not accusing the DA of anything from what I can tell it was all on the up and up. But seriously, why would anyone want to play a slower kingdom knowing all the work involved will probably mean naught when one of the faster moving positions is going to win early.

Well put, Cipher.

Today's Super Bowl wasn't so great either, but it doesn't mean the game itself is broken.

Congratulations to the Dark Elf, VBallMichael, on the first Dark Elven Gold. Break up the Dark Elves! Break up the Dark Elves!

And note the case Cipher made on how many victory conditions needed to be achieved, and VBM already acknowledged some good fortune in having a secret victory condition requiring the demise of your natural enemy (occurs maybe 10% of the time), and a few other pieces fall into place.

Yes, I would not like to have had a good position and had an early winner, and I think about that from time to time and want to post on that in a design thread independent of this game.

Let's take our lumps, learn something and go get the next chalice.

To be clear I'm not suggesting any change to the Dark Elf position or, "Break up the Dark Elves". I just don't like the SVC, at all, any of them.

SVCs are too easy. Standard is too hard. To be honest the game is a let down when you have no chance to compete. If the kingdoms are balanced to some degree, how can the slower ones win on turn 11?
As I understand things, which may be incorrect, don't the game creators assign the SVCs? Just get rid of the ones that let you win with 2 regions. Or don't allow the SVC order to happen until turn 15 or so.

Keep this going on a new thread or something limited to SVC. Don't keep beating up on the Darkelf Gold.
