Master and Apprentice
#1
This is a special signup game:

1. Resurgent
2. 12 players on six teams of two.
3. An apprentice is a player who has not placed top 3 in a completed game and is at Scout or Warrior service.
4. Master has no restrictions, i.e., any persona can be a Master.
5. The game is won when one of the six apprentice led kingdoms controls three regions for two consecutive turns.
6. Kingdom selection will be by draft, likely directed by Lord Diamond, if he has returned from his drafting enterprises in the Far East, commissioned there we believe after his successes in recent Warlords drafts.
7. So, three apprentices should get podium honors, and three mentors will be recognized in some other way, like being declared Higher Beings.
8. In addition, both Apprentice (Scout or Warrior) and Master (when game begins service level) winning team gets a free month service! (What??)
9. Game will be monitored by Grasshopper or his designee and info may be leaked to the community! (Grasshopper cannot be trusted.)
10. $20 per persona setup.

So it would be anonymous with no communication except between each apprentice and master of each team? Actually sound like a fun format even without the apprentice thing just teams if two or even 6 player teams of two.

No, not anonymous! This is all about the teaching opportunity. I want The Deliverer to tell his Apprentice what to expect from Morgan Kane, Wynand, Thalion, Dupont, etc.

All teams will be announced. Pride, glory, virtue!

So we have Wynand and Helix as Team Alpha, at this point.

Rick,

Great idea.

Something to consider though - what will likely happen in this game is larger group of 6 kingdoms versus a smaller group of 4. For example, why would we not ally with Morgan Kane and his apprentice to ensure our longevity and better early coordination? I think Anonoymous prevents this type of outcome, which would actually be advantageous for this type of format.

Just a suggestion.

You are teaching the importance of early diplomacy as a key part of the exercise. Generally I am thinking Grasshopper will reveal some things of substance maybe 3 turns after they happen. Ideally, this, after your input to identify strategy is a training module. That's why you get notoriety AND a free month if you win. (What?)

Until the designer figures out a way to limit diplomacy without eliminating diplomacy, this is how Alamaze is played, and maybe a critical component. How negotiations go, or don't go, is an important part of early success for many kingdoms. Staying away from the fray can be successful as well, but knowing when to and when to not to might be the difference between victory and, well, not victory.

If Rick would allow I would love to play as an apprentice. I am not the right service level only because I want to play a lot of games. I have still only been back in Alamaze for less than a month. I would love to have one of the senior members as a mentor to learn some thing especially in the mid to late game. Without SVCs this game could last longer and provide some great in site I would not get as much exposure to.

Not sure anonymous would work for good tutoring alliance and deal making are critical parts of Alamaze. Maybe only allow the apprentice to talk to each other big brother just advises.

Jumpingfist has agreed to be my Padawan.
