Anonymous Exploratory Warlords
#1
This will be a Warlords game where all four personas (hopefully) will be anonymous and we will use the Exploratory variant. Please just send an email to signup@alamaze.co if you would like to be involved. We will likely conduct a draft when we have our four Warlords. I will update this to indicate our participant numbers from time to time.

To give this thread the possibility of some other content, perhaps any interested player not having played in Warlords before might ask questions of the format to be answered by existing Warlords players.

Hi Everyone,

I am thinking about doing a warlords game. I know that there are four players and three kingdoms each, but I don't know how they are chosen and if there are some tips for playing this game.

Just a reminder - this game is true anonymous so that we will not know the 4 personas, as well as not knowing which personas control which kingdoms. At this point, we have two, which does not include Bash.

I hope to start a Warlords forum this weekend with various strategy threads.

Biggest thing I see with warlords (anonymous and otherwise) is taking care during the draft to make sure your three kingdoms make sense together. Some of the combinations I've seen (some from experienced players) has me scratching my head more often than not. A good team can help to cover some of the mistakes that are bound to happen. An oddball team often requires you to play nearly perfect (and get lucky) to make it work.

For picking teams it is done via a draft coordinator so far always Lord Diamond. You would give him your first selection. He will let you know if you got the kingdom asked for. You will not know what draft order your in unless someone ahead of you picked the kingdom you requested. This goes on until the kingdoms are selected and teams formed. You will not know which kingdom were not selected either. To be fair it is a snake draft but you will not see that aspect on your side as you draft. LD does not give any indication where your picking.

As Dusi aptly pointed out, choosing a group of kingdoms that work well together is essential, be it geographically (i.e. RD/DW) or synergistically (AN and...well, whoever). Normally southern kingdoms are in high demand since falling behind in production is especially tough in Warlords.

I am often surprised at some of the picks and combinations. I never learn how those choices turn out, but I so wonder.

I do try to keep the process as mysterious as possible, but Rick knows the process and approves. It is as fair as I can make it and most players get the bulk of their choices. In some drafts, 2 or 3 players often get all three of their first choices for every round.

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

I believe we have 3 of the required 4 Warlords as of now. So, what brave Anonymous supporter wants to step up to complete the company?
