Thought we already had this thread.

So, who you got your money on: Prince Oberyn (The Red Viper) or The Mountain?

The Mountain kills Oberyn, and Tyrion is summarily executed...not what I want to happen - but what I think will happen.

Oberyn has better tactics, but some fluke thing happens and the Mountain gets a lucky shot. Tyrion escapes King's Landing.

Can't comment. I read the books.

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

Same here, but I'd like to praise the actor who portrays Oberyn. What a great job he's done so far.

I agree, he steals every scene. They haven't made him out as a swordsman, although in the books I think they made that case.

Hmmm, it looks like there is no new episode tonight?

No, they are taking the holiday weekend off. Back next week for the first of the three remaining episodes to close out the season.

And yes, the books make a bigger point of his combat abilities though I'd say the show has at least dropped a few comments here and there. The book also brings up his mastery of poisons before Joffrey's death so that he's a natural suspect right away. In the show, Tywin just shows up afterward and is like 'So, you're a master of poisons . . .' That must've come out of left field for show watchers only.

As with Lord of the Rings, I generally like the departures the movie or TV directors / writers do from the original. For GRR Martin, HBO obviously had to not cast about 100 characters, and I think their transitions have been great, as were Jackson's in LOTR.

Part of the fun of the show for me is seeing the choices they made in the adaptation. Obviously, one of the big things is that an author can involve an infinite number of characters without increasing the cost of producing the work, while a production must exercise economy of characters. I like seeing which characters are given things to do that are done by different characters in the books.

While a lot of book readers have expressed annoyance at the show when it veers away from depicting events taken directly from the page, I thoroughly enjoy the variations. The books are written from the perspective of POV characters. Because the show is not like that, we get to see conversations that we would never have seen in the books because no POV character was there to witness it. It's a strength for the show - seeing Olenna and Tywin verbally tilt at one another is a treat, for example, and something we didn't get and wouldn't have gotten in the books.

I hope everyone enjoyed the Trial!
