It's not about pushing one's buttons but rather having proper game design. Rick has already admitted that he has made mistakes that will be removed in 3rd cycle/Kingdoms of Arcania (as the double hostile regional reaction among others).

The point that I was making above was that combat should be reexamined because if a kingdom's defensive value is set so high that it actually washes out the other effects of battle (tac, terrain, magic, morale, ...etc.), you have a serious game design issue.

The battle that I described above was about as lopsided as you can make which emphases that the game mechanic isn't working properly or should be reviewed.

There are other ways of providing kingdoms with stronger defensive measures like additional guard infantry or non-artifact enhancements for better armor that I mentioned in another thread (http://www.kingdomsofarcania.net/forum/s...p?tid=9124).

But by having something hidden (like that double hostile nonsense) that dominates other aspects of the game, you have a serious problem that really needs to be fixed.

...and for a small fee you can fix the problems?? Maybe the people who play won't like the fixes? Then who pays who to fix the fixes?

In all fairness to both sides - it's not really a democracy since this is a private enterprise (to my knowledge). All parties should bring up game flaws (as they see them) for all of us to scrutinize and discuss. As assets are available and will allow, game designers should make changes to benefit the game if they want to keep player's paying for it.

Similarly, if the price is raised, players have the right to walk away. Someone mentioned earlier about Duelmasters (Duel 2) not having a significant game change in the last few decades. Though I believe that to be true, the players have changed how they play the game - which in and of itself has brought about changes. Though no code has changed, and the game is structurally the same, the price has risen once since I started playing...and that was around 1984.

Actually, fixing this issue should be just a configuration file setting or table value in the kingdom's setup. So if the Troll kingdom is set to absorb 50% combat damage, just assign it a new value like 5% or so. That way the value won't wash out the other combat factors (tac, magic, troop composition, etc) in the game. Really easy to do and if asked, I can do it if necessary.

The AN army had a value of 55K prior to the batlle. I sent in the wrong order set so the group was surprised. They still fought very well. It is rare to see the RD defeated in combat so I thought this was an interesting battle.

Someone needs to rename this thread "times I beat up on Dusi's troops". Smile

I wasn't too surprised by the results of that one, Hawk... I was just trying to break a siege... would have failed horribly, but if memory serves I had a collection of captives that I didn't want to get out, so I attacked at a 3 and issued the 430 in desperation. I got lucky that you got the wrong orders in... obviously the combat didn't go my way, though.

Here's an interesting one - this battle occurred on the final turn of game 129. I was the RA and Jumpingfist was the TR. He had been pummeling me for several turns including sacking my capitol at UM. It was my first and only chance to face off against him with Trollslayer.

BOTH COMMANDERS FELT LOSSES TO THEIR FORCES HAD EXCEEDED ACCEPTABLE LEVELS, AND EACH WITHDREW THEIR FORCES
FROM THE FIELD. TROLL LOSSES WERE ESTIMATED AT 10600 CREATURES. TROLL HEROES FOUGHT BRAVELY. THE TROLL HERO
BIGFOOT WAS SLAIN IN COMBAT. FATALITIES WITHIN THE TROLL GROUP HAVE RESULTED IN A SIGNIFICANT DECLINE IN

I was happy to see that game end.

Not sure how chaos works if the warlord starts the fight but dies during the fight. Also we both retreated so would have been interesting to see how that works.

ATTACK BY THE 1ST RANGER ARMY GROUP ON THE DEMON PRINCES CITY OF TRIESA, LOCATED IN AREA VO OF ARCANIA: AFTER

AN INNER WALL OF SOME 40' HEIGHT WITH A DOZEN HEAVILY-MANNED TOWERS ALONG WITH EVERY CONCEIVABLE WEAPON OF
DEFENSE. AS THE RANGER FORCE DREW NEAR ITS TARGET, THE ASSAULT COMMENCED. ADDING TO THE DEFENSES WERE HIGHLY
TRAINED UNITS FROM THE PALACE GUARD! IT BECAME CLEAR TO THE ATTACKING UNITS THAT TRIESA'S DEFENSES WOULD BE
ENHANCED BY NOT ONLY THE THESE TROOPS' ADDITIONAL FIGHTING ABILITIES, BUT ALSO BY THEIR ENHANCED TACTICAL AND
STRATEGIC PLANNING CAPABILITIES USED TO DEFEND THEIR CAPITAL. AS THE ATTACKERS APPROACHED, DEFENDING ARCHERS
WERE ABLE TO ELIMINATE ENTIRE COMPANIES OF THE ATTACKING FORCE. THE RANGER TIRIAN (POWER- 1.0) CAST NO SPELLS
TO AID HIS FORCE IN THIS BATTLE. THE RANGER EXCEL (POWER- 1.0) TRIED TO AVOID AS BEST ABLE THE ENEMY'S
ATTACKS. THE DEFENDERS AT THE FIELD RAMPARTS FOUGHT WITH STRONG FURY, AND THOUGH THEY SUFFERED LOSSES, THUS
FAR THEY HAD HELD THEIR POSITIONS. THE RANGER HAD ALREADY SUFFERED QUITE SUBSTANTIAL LOSSES IN THE EFFORT,
BUT THEIR COMMANDER BRAVELY LED YET ANOTHER CHARGE. AFTER SIX HOURS OF BRUTAL MELEE, FINALLY THE ATTACKERS
BROKE THROUGH THE OUTER DEFENSES AND BEGAN TO MASS AGAINST THE MAIN WALL OF THE CITY. IGNORING FOR THE MOMENT
SUBSTANTIAL LOSSES, ESPECIALLY ON THEIR LEFT RANKS, THE RANGER COMMANDERS BECKONED THEIR MEN ONWARD TO GLORY.
THE FURIOUS MELEE HAD STRETCHED INTO THE NIGHT. THE DOGGED ATTACKERS BATTLED HARD, BUT WHETHER THEIR NOW VERY
DEPLETED FORCE COULD PRESS ON TO VICTORY WAS DOUBTFUL. WEARY FROM THE LONG STRUGGLE, THE ATTACKERS
NONETHELESS REMAINED IN HIGH SPIRITS AND WERE DETERMINED TO EMERGE VICTORIOUS IN THE END. THOUGH SOME GAINS
HAD BEEN ACHIEVED, WARLORD DRAMIK REALIZED THAT TO CONTINUE ON TO POSSIBLE VICTORY WOULD COST UNACCEPTABLE
HIGH LOSSES. HE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO ORDER THE RETREAT. FINALLY, THE ATTACKERS WERE ULTIMATELY REPULSED.
RANGER CASULTIES WERE SAID TO BE 13000 TROOPS. RANGER LEADERS BATTLED COURAGEOUSLY. ALL RANGER LEADERS
SURVIVED THE BATTLE. THE RANGER WIZARDS TIRIAN AND EXCEL SURVIVED THE FRAY. LOSSES SUFFERED IN THE EFFORT
AND DEPRESSION OF DEFEAT HAVE GREATLY REDUCED MORALE.
