I don't want to sound like a broken record here but the order validator will detect some errors in your orders. If Rick ever changes his mind about the decision he made back in Nov, I could probably finish the web order entry/validator in about two weeks. Makes me curious why he hasn't done so in the past six months, perhaps his relative is working on it and he's unable Smile

[C'mon that's funny]

I don't believe the validator have noticed that I skipped a square on my 720 orders.

Also I would have needed to retype my turn into the program correct?

Yes, the order validator is able to detect if you skipped a map square. If you check the document that is attached to the validator forum listing, order 720 states that in version 1.1+ of the software, it validates if subsequent map areas are valid map locations and if they are connecting locations. It can also validate if you move beyond 20 pts for your kingdom movement rate (or 25 for force marching).

So there's all kinds of goodies in that program. It's just that the initial release was very limited in nature since it resided on the test server rather than the actual game server so the additional checks couldn't be done.

About retyping your orders, you will need to do that for each turn in version 1.0 but I had always planned on reloading your orders for the current turn before the turn's deadline. That way, the user wouldn't have to retype the whole order sheet for making a quick adjustment before the turn is due.

It would be nice to be able to submit unlimited corrections too. I never liked waiting until the last day to submit my turn because if there's a problem with my internet connection (roadrunner kinda sucks) or bad weather moved in, you could miss the deadline. So by having an online order submission/validator in place, it would make a lot of lives easier.

But as I mentioned elsewhere, Rick never told me what the issue was or why he didn't like it. I could have changed the color if that was the problem but I really don't know. And I kept quiet about it for months until Rick said he was going to raise prices for the lack of having one so I had to say something at that point.

Not that I was trying to "push one's buttons" but I really don't know why he rejected a readily available online order entry/validator program that was less than two weeks away from completion. I asked what the reason could be in the other forum link and got a rude response from him in return (which doesn't answer the question).

So I've been guessing what it could be - still think it could be his relative that he can't get out of now Smile

That makes sense. I was only familiar with the 1.0 "test" version.

I'm not aware of what Rick's issue with unclemike's order thingy was, but he's made it plain that he had one. Constantly bringing it up seems pointlessly antagonistic.

Sure does.

My errors are usually putting in the wrong letter for a movement order, emissary move, or emissary name. I rarely miss any reinforcements etc, because I try to look two turns ahead.

Harsh, but true. They're better off staying if spoon-fed games like HW and Middle-Earth.

Not quite the sentiment I would expect to find from a group of people trying to grow the player base.

What sentiment did you expect to find?

One that would support new players and issues they tend to have with a complex game. Understanding that some people have issues with applications like Excel and being sympathetic and not condenseding.

Seriously, if you like these kind of games, you have been gaming your entire life. Following instructions, typing and excel is taught in grade school.

Yes this game is complicated, but the complication of the game is not why people quit, it is due to the "current player base" kicking their ass so fast, AND them making mistakes. Some new players stay and play another, others don't.

If you could truly only put new players in their own game, that might help. But they ALWAYS get tossed in with experienced players, and that is the real issue right there.

I really like the new format where the corners and middle play. Throw new players into those games and let them learn and make mistakes in a format that is super forgiving.
