World Cup and patience
#1
For those looking for a way to whittle away the time spent checking your inboxes for results, ESPN has coverage of the World Cup, which kicks off at 4pm EST today.

Might be a good way to pass the time.... only comes around every 4 years, so a lot of us will be spending more time watching this than we do for Alamaze. I will, at least.

I'm rooting for Honduras (who of course, have no chance).

I'm rooting for a lot of damn good games. So far the opener has not disappointed.

Today is a delight for sports: US Open, World Cup opening, Game 4 NBA Finals.

I thought the first half of the Brazil - Croatia match was very good, but the referee killed the game in the second half with a phantom penalty kick for the hosts, who then also killed off the game with more flopping. Disappointing that so many were looking for the beautiful game and we saw then the worst parts of soccer. The 3rd goal in stoppage will make most think it wasn't close, but Croatia was hard done. Tomorrow is a new day, with Spain vs. Netherlands - where's the popcorn?

Tomorrow's day off spent wine tasting will be bittersweet, as I'll likely get yelled at a few times for watching the game on my phone instead of arguing the finer points of a pinot noir. I'll also spend the morning cheering loudly for Cameroon, as we all should.

Agreed on the second half of the game being spoiled by the referee. Hoping that he's already worked his way out of any chance at refereeing in the knockouts.

Monday, 3pm at Mainstream in Poway, CA for the USA game if anyone is in the area. I'll buy the first round!

Did you Alamaze California Dudes ever work out the details of your Summer rendezvous?

How 'bout those annually underrated Spurs?

You realize that I'm an Arsenal fan, right? Never use the word "Spurs" in my presence, even if you're talking about that silly sport, basketball.

Hopefully we'll get something worked out. Bluefile2 recently got a new place, and Wynand threw a wrinkle in by saying he may be in CA sometime in July. Plus HH is temporarily out, etc. etc. insert other excuses here.

Would still love to do it!

I purchased an intercontinental ballistic missile in anticipation of the event.

And now you may be able to set the coordinates.
Wasn't Lord Thanatos entertaining the idea as well? And this might be a good gambit to get Head Honcho, thorn though he can be, back into the fold.

Good chess match between Italy and England.

USA official (what?!) for the first match of the day, Columbia and Greece - he is about the only one to that point that did well in this tournament.

Costa Rica!

Go Japan!
