Wall of Flame and Siege
#1
Currently you can siege an enemy pop center (including his capitol city) while casting Wall of Flame to prevent your opponent's army from breaking your siege.

This doesn't seem quite right to me. But I am willing to play this way if it something that helps with game balance.

I think casting Wall of Flame should prevent a kingdom from using orders 150 and 190.

You may have a huge army in place that can offer no support to your capitol. This seems strange to me.

What does everybody else think about this aspect of the game?

Wall of Flame doesn't prevent the battle. Attack them with a 3 and run through the flames. You can also dispel the Wall. Since the army would not have defended if they want to Siege, it could get very ugly.

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. I think it is good to discuss this topic for the benefit of newer players.

There may be some info here that people don't realize.

In my experience Wall of Flame will generate roughly 20-30% losses to any force that moves through it. I think it is dependent upon your group's defensive value.

Currently you can cast Wall of Flame at an enemy group and issue a 110 attack order on a 1 or 2 at the same group. No combat will occur unless your opponent chooses to move through the wall loosing a large part of their group.

Retreat often works very well in Alamaze and the probing group can retreat and then stay in the same square, then restart their siege and likely enjoy a morale boost.

If retreat was less efficient I would be more inclined to charge through a wall of flame but it is a high price to pay when you end up killing off your kingdom brigades with meager gains.

Dispel can be an option if you can come up with a wizard of equal level to your opponent.

I think Wall of Flame should be a defensive maneuver and therefore should prevent 110, 150, 180, 190. Maybe this would be an unfair blow to the wizard kingdoms however.

Just food for thought.

Just to be clear, you don't have to make any kingdom brigades in the area retreat before laying siege like you would if you attacked the pc? That is my understanding, and it makes sense to me, but I would hate to waste a turn laying siege when there was an unattacked enemy group in the area.

You have to make all kingdom groups that have brigades/troops in them retreat to perform a siege.

Ahh, thanks. That wasn't clear from the earlier comments.

I think this is a big improvement to the game.
