Automation: More Frequent Turns?
#11
Based on what UM suggests, it sounds like with automated processing, there could be a whole host of options available, ones that wouldn't require any GM time to deal with.

If that happens, rather than forcing any of the general public to play more quickly than you think they ought to, what would be the issue with letting some of the more experienced players who really, really, really want even faster turns start some games with that in mind?

Just wondering. Really trying to see and understand your point-of-view, I just don't see any down sides, again, assuming the level of customization that UM foresees becomes a reality.

I don't see what would be wrong with setting up a regular schedule that can run when all the plyers are ready. Once a game runs you have, say, a maxim of 72 hours to do your turn. If you get done sooner, great! Otherwise, you wait.

The only downside would be that some of us would start hitting refresh on day one, but that would be our problem.

This could be presented as an option rather than standard.

I am almost okay with the frequency. I like the week where we get two turns, but I dislike the week where I get only one.

I like the idea of a speed game. Ok with it taking two slots.

If Alamaze gets put on a GUI like Fall of Rome was, the time that it takes for players to do their orders will be much shorter.

1.  No one will have to maintain a map (No more PDF maintenance needed).
2.  Right-clicking on your King, Noble, Agent, HP, Wizard or group, etc. will give you all of the commands available to that entity.
        a.  And the GUI will prompt for all of the parameters needed when executing an order (so less frequent trips to the "Orders" document for syntax and associated costs).
3.  No need to write your orders down or type them into an excel sheet before entering the final version into the web page (as the GUI would manage this for you).

With the current schedule of 4-days, 4-days, 6-days, it is going to seem like an eternity between turns.

I'd love to play a 'zap' game that ran M/T/W/F. It would have to be anonymous and cost a good bit more of course. But I don't know that there would be 14 other players who would want something that fast.

That is crazy fast even for me.  MWF would already be 2x as fast and a ton of fun.

I could do MWF. That's about as fast as I could manage.

It would be cool if you could play a Primeval game where the turns run when the orders are all in.  You could potentially run multiple turns per day on weekends.  If everything was automated this might be a future possibility.

I would be interested in participating.
