OOC items:

I just noticed our new games thread moved here - which makes sense.

I was looking for the game in my order menu and didn't see it. I just realized I may have to log out to clear my cache - and voila, I can access this game now and submit my orders. I'll do so later tonight after a commitment for the next few hours.

Looking forward to playing with everyone!

Greetings all of Alamaze on this first late season (let the fleecing begin)!  Hobbit, inc. is up an running and we are ready for a deal or two!  (to make you poor and us rich)  A single purchase and a single sale this month... buying food... at 1 gold for 2 food!  That's a significant advantage over selling on the open market... so why not?  Selling anyway?  Sell to us and stick some more money in your pocket! (but more importantly, ours).  Also, a single sale this month, you get gold at the SAME rate we would if we sold food on the open market! 2 gold for 3 food.

Why NOT build a castle this early (fool)??  Why NOT double feed those troops to get that moral up!?

We have only 24k food available this early in the year (for 16k gold).  However if YOU are laden with food, we can take 60k off your hands (for 30k gold ).  That's an extra 10k gold in your pocket!  (we make double that, of course)

New and regular player preference, but we will sell to vets and dragons if no one else is buying (hint, hint, motivation, buy from us or face well fed dragons)

Wise and strong Ranger King,
While traveling home cloaks drawn close over their armor, my captains noticed a neutral village at RC. Perhaps your envoys will sway them to your banner?

IL-HA King
I look forward to months of trade with you, my furry footed friend. Perhaps in late Autumn we can discuss more details once I secure Zanthia. I also request that you allow me to keep my town in your region until then. I will tax it then (turn 4). If you want the location, let me know.

HA - IL  You have a town in the Sword Coast Shire?  We thought we were just seeing things!  We'll keep the natives out until you can tax it on month 4 and thank you for that gesture, there will surely be some good natured trade in your future!

EL - RA We were pleased to see old friends enjoying the hospitality of Four Winds, a township that has long served as a connection between our people. The Summer King proposes we join together for a discussion about the ties between our people and where they might lead in this new age.

EL - DR (Druid?) Our scouts have already forgotten that place where you treated them for a brief while. Your secrets, as always, are safe with us. Thank you for your service to the lands.

EL -RD Seeing dragons soaring through the clouds stirs memories of a different time. Our rangers leave the plains by foot even as we speak, leaving their horse behind as a peace offering. We had no intent to spy upon the RD 1st and shall not record the names and number of that mighty Wing.

OOC - What is a good approach for treating with those that have towns or villages in one's starting region? Is an exchange reasonable, or some other measure to safely remove the threat of having a base for political and covert ops in one's home?

We've spoken of wine, bread, and merriment together and make you welcome among our kind. We have just begun exchange with other civilizations and have an eye towards long-term partnerships. Please speak more about what you propose, as our folk are from a different age, and value your insight as to how trade works in this new one.

Perhaps exposing myself... (not again)..., my troops are there this turn, so your envoys would surely be welcome to move there next turn.

IL-EL
Rulers do it different ways. Some towns are of great potential value, islands mostly come to mind, for defensive and economic potential, and might be worth fighting for. Most people trade for something of value, or ask for a delay, but its really up to you.  PS my comment above is based on the order of actions- emissaries move before groups, so the RA Prince Charming would be blocked by my group if he moves this turn as my group is still there (dammit I exposed myself again. What kind of IL am I?)

Thank you for reaching out! We have seen the friendship with the Elven folk as a cornerstone of our culture. We would very much like to keep it that way! We understand that our presence in the Sea of the Forgotten might be seen as troublesome by some member of your administration, but we can assure you that our intentions are, as have always been, friendly. We only want to trade and prosper, and have no bad intents with you Elves whatsoever! We do hope we can keep our town in your territory, as a sign of the friendship between our people.

OOC: As one very much affected by your question, I don't see myself answering you with a percieved credible answer, so hoping other will jump in. I do think however, as many things in the very complex world of Alamaze, that there are no "right" answer to your question...
