Game 5684
OOC:

Well, it appears that Strylian has some life left in him, after all. He just needed to be yanked from his state of near-perpetual slumber, is all.

It's a darned shame that he can't seem to figure out who his king is, though. Is it some fellow by the name of Brandon Goldfinder? Or is his Halflings' king actually some pretender-to-the-throne named Theodrin? Or is he supposed to be Theodrin? Do the Halflings in this epoch have two kings? Do they now imagine themselves to be Tombalkuns? Truly, I wonder.

So, if anyone actually cares why the Underworld cast a Revelation spell on the Halflings, this last turn, it was because I am trying to use as many orders and spells in my learning games of Alamaze as I can, which will allow me to update my checklist that I maintain in the Alamaze forum, here (in a separate thread from this one, of course).

But why pick Stryling and his Halflings? Well, if memory serves me correctly, Stryling once upon a time ago had some life in him, and he made numerous videos pertaining to Alamaze. Yet, of late, he has fallen silent. He and his Halflings seemed as good a choice as any to yank the chain of in this game. Apparently, the game forum threads here can become more interesting and exciting, if players and participants give up their addictions to silence.

How quickly Shire folks lose their timidity, and embrace a warlike mentality. Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!

Now, a new Fellowship arises, one without a cursed ring to dispose of in a volcano far, far away. The great plan, as it initially presents itself to me, from the perspective of a player, is to try and quickly toss flowery words at various neighboring kingdoms, where not so very long ago there was but silent daisies growing in fields of complacency. My, how quickly these Hobbitses and their player have found the religion of kissing up. It's quite amusing. From my vantage point it is, anyway.

Didn't I also just declare the Sorcerer to be an ally? Was this lost on the Halflings and their player behind the scenes? Probably not. No point in provoking a magical bear, I guess. Kudos to Stryling for playing it smooth on that particular front of his new offensive against the Underworld. It was so smooth, that it was barely noticeable.

<<ahem>>

The DeathKnights player might be wondering why an Underworld group is now encamped at the games of one of population centers. Actually, that group comes bearing gifts, but whether the DeathKnights player has figured that out by now or not, I can't truly say.

The fact that the Halflings player made an appeal so quickly to multiple different kingdoms strikes me as Stryling hedging his bets. He fancies that he needs help in this forthcoming war that he has imagined has suddenly placed his kingdom at somewhat of a disadvantage. Dragging one's neighbors off to a war can be fun, I suppose, but what is the net gain for them, if they accommodate these newly-war-evangelizing Hobbitses? Winning or losing have nothing to do with a Learning Game, of course. But Hobbitses must have their wars and their adventures, I suppose.

But did I understand Stryling right? His great and secret plan is to seek passage through the Ancient Ones' land (and population centers), in order to take the war to the Underworld? And all in the name of his love for peace? Such utter madness!

Are Underworld agents already in place and on station, and on the verge of assassinating a bunch of Hobbits? Probably not. My high Priestesses have been updating the Underworld's Map of the Realms, but that's as much out of partial boredom as anything.

Just on the observation end of things, Alamaze players sure do seem to spend a lot of time not posting in the forum (aka sharing the fun of the game with forum passersby), and a great deal of time building up. Twenty-one (21) turns have already been processed for this particular Alamaze epoch, and the Sorcerer and other kingdoms are still biding their time and amassing their strength and their power.

Why didn't Stryling cozy up to the Sorcerer kingdom, though, in his batch of missives hastily declared out of some new-found urgency? Or did the Halflings forget that the very powerful Sorcerer and his many 7+ Power Level wizards were allowing his kingdom to live in this peace that he and his kind so enjoy and are committed to - except when they want to take up a crusade to distant lands? This is a good example of why I derive so much enjoyment from what players choose to do in PBM wargames that I play (and have played). Players almost always tend to be more fun than the kingdoms that they play. Not all of them, of course, but certainly a great many of them.

The Ancient Ones' player has a new game that has swept him away into new worlds of fun, and he doesn't seem to have logged in to the Alamaze forum, recently, even just to check his messages. So, Stryling really might want to expand his outreach, if he has not already done so. Could it be that the great Jon Deaux is drifting away from Alamaze?

I sure do hope not.

Let it not be said, though, that I do not appreciate Stryling openly seeking permission from the Ancient Ones for passage through their lands. Very competently handled, I might add. Historically, crusades tend to come with many downsides. Of course, those seldom make for good advertising, whether you're trying to raise an army or an army of allies.

If it is peace that you truly seek (from many, but not from the Underworld, itself), then assign your Hobbitses to creating new Alamaze videos. Do that, and the Underworld will leave your Halflings in peace.

Do it not, and I shall collect ears.

With those words, the hall erupted in thunderous applause. The Halflings of Nyvaria were ready to defend their homeland, united under the leadership of King Theodrin.

To the Esteemed Great Imperator of the Onyx Imperium,

Greetings from the heart of the Diamond Coast.

We extend our deepest gratitude to you and your distinguished representatives for your invaluable support of our resolution on the High Counsel. Witnessing such solidarity and mutual understanding among neighboring realms is heartening, and we recognize the weight of the Onyx Imperium's endorsement.

Building upon this camaraderie and shared vision for a harmonious future, we propose forging a formal alliance between our realms. Given our shared borders and mutual interests in regional stability, it seems timely and pertinent to unite our strengths. Such an alliance would not only serve as a testament to the goodwill and collaboration between our people but would also function as a bastion against potential threats and external discord.

The prosperity of our lands relies heavily on the security and harmony of our borders. By combining our efforts and fortifying our shared boundary, we can cultivate an era of prosperity and peace for the Onyx Imperium the Diamond Coast, and the entire region.

We look forward to your thoughts on this proposition. An alliance between the Onyx Imperium and the Diamond Coast would bring hope and unity in these challenging times.

Warm regards,

King Theodrin

Ruler of the Diamond Coast.

Late is the hour in which this word conjurer chooses to appear!

How quickly he now finds it possible to hurl verbal niceties to and fro. But if such were truly possible, why is it they only begin to bloom, just now? What great performance will you treat all of Alamaze to next?

Dispense with these acts of verbal fellatio, I say! For is not Theodrin a name that was spun upon the Wheel of Time? Surely, a dire plague of madness has stolen away this pretender's sanity. Are you proposing a war, or proposing marriage? If the latter, then bigamy it shall be.

Just change thy name to Grima Wormtongue, and be done with it. Dispense with the pretense, and cease trying to wallow in the mud of deception. Thou and thy people have been found wanting. You and yours suffer from more than a lack of growth in the physical realm. These are not mere minions that you seek to rally to a war which they have not heretofore been party to. Be forthright, and confess to them that what you seek is to lull them into aiding an ill-conceived crusade of adventurism. Clearly, your tongue still works. Why then plant a harvest of deception?

You dare to speak openly of peace and prosperity, but you did not come by your throne by peace. Nay, I say! 'Twas your own penchant for hostility and your taste for war that allowed you to amass a region under your control to begin with. Great realms should not suffer any delusions of peaceful Hobbitses just frolicking in their fields of fanciful dreams. You bring shame upon your people, with your haste to sound your war drums that you seem to have maintained at the ready for such hasty resort to.

The Underworld has inflicted no harm, no losses upon the very realms to which you now make this ill-conceived appeal. Yet, how very swift you are, to whip up these speeches of yours. You should best hope that they do not notice.

Tell me, Theothud the Dud, Dudlord of Hobbitses who have no craving for costly and ill-imagined wars, do you not have sufficient numbers of Hobbitses to casually send off to blood-lettings, that you must now seek to volunteer the inhabitants of other realms to do your bleeding for you?

May thy tongue of trouble be pierced, Halfling Pretender!

To the venerable Great Imperator of the Onyx Imperium, Dark Elves of The Diamond Coast,

In the spirit of our newly forged alliance and mutual trust, I am pleased to inform you that a Halfling caravan laden with 70,000 units of our finest produce is en route to your esteemed realm. The bounties of Nyvaria have been meticulously curated to ensure the quality and satisfaction of our dear allies in The Diamond Coast.

We anticipate a prompt payment of 35,000 pieces of gold upon successfully delivering the provisions. We trust that this transaction will begin a fruitful trade partnership between our realms. I ardently hope that our commodities nourish your land and foster deeper connections between our peoples.

Moreover, as we look to the future, I am optimistic about the prospects of further trade between our kingdoms. There is much we can share and benefit from, and this initial venture could pave the way for more extensive exchanges in the coming seasons.

I trust this caravan will find safe passage through your territories and that our goods will be received with the same warmth and hospitality that the Halflings of Nyvaria extend to all our friends.*

May our alliance and burgeoning trade relations continue to thrive and flourish.

With kind regards and anticipation of a prosperous partnership,

May thy tongue of trouble be pierced, Halfling Pretender!
Lord of Shadows
To the Lord of Shadows, He who dwells deep within the Underworld,

Your eloquence is matched only by the obscurity from which you speak, a realm known for its darkness and treachery. I ponder on your words, looking beyond the mire of insults, seeking any glimmer of reason. Yet, I find none.

Given that the Underworld has chosen to declare an unprovoked war upon the Halflings of Nyvaria, it is clear that diplomacy has reached its dusk with you. As such, any further words or promises from your realm will fall on deaf ears. The Halflings will no longer entertain the whispers from the shadows.

Time has borne witness to various tales, and the histories of realms ebb and flow like the tides. Indeed, my rise was not solely through olive branches but by the will and might of my people. Just as you, Lord of Shadows, did not come into power through mere parlance. Every kingdom has its own story of rise and challenge, and Nyvaria is no different.

But, in your haste to cast aspersions, you misread the intent of my words. While the past is wrought with conflict, the present and future need not be. I wish for my people to live in peace and for Nyvaria to be a beacon of hope and prosperity. But peace does not mean weakness, nor does it represent a blind eye to potential threats.

Unlike realms that arbitrarily label others as allies, we of Nyvaria extend a hand of friendship, following the protocol of any reasonable diplomatic state. We seek mutual understanding and consent, not imposition.

As for the titles and names you throw around with such abandon, know this: being our enemy, you have no say, no vote, in whatever name our King chooses to bear. The Halflings of Nyvaria and I owe you no explanations, no justifications.

Lastly, my fellow Halflings are no mere minions, as you put it. They are a proud and determined people, willing to fight for their homes, values, and future.

May wisdom light your path, Lord of Shadows, and may you find clarity amidst your shadows.

In truth and steadfastness,

King Theodrin of Nyvaria

Letter to the King of the Dark Elves of The Diamond Coast

To His Majesty, the Esteemed Ruler of the Dark Elves of The Diamond Coast,

I hope this message finds you and your realm in good health and prosperity.

With genuine regret and deep respect, I must inform you of a change in circumstances concerning our recent trade discussions. As the season of celebration approaches for the Halflings of Nyvaria, we find ourselves amidst preparations for our grand festival. It is a time of joy, tradition, and unity that our people hold dear and requires significant resources to ensure its successful commemoration.

Owing to the unforeseen demands of our festival season, I must regrettably convey that we cannot spare any food for trade this season. We understand the implications of this decision, especially considering our initial agreement, and we sincerely apologize.

I hope you understand the sanctity and importance of this tradition for our people and the reasons behind our decision. We highly value our relationship with The Diamond Coast and would like to explore opportunities to re-establish this trade in the subsequent seasons.

Let this not be a hindrance to the blossoming relationship between our kingdoms. We remain optimistic about future collaboration prospects and cherish our mutual understanding.

We wish you and your people the best for this season and look forward to reconvening our discussions more opportunistically.

With utmost respect and sincerity,

King Theodrin of Nyvaria

**Heartache and Resilience: Utopia and Whisper Valley Fall, But Halfling Spirit Endures**

In an unspeakable act of malevolence, the halfling villages of Utopia and Whisper Valley have become the unfortunate theatres of utter destruction, mercilessly wrought by the sinister mages of the Underworld. With a toll of over two hundred innocent villagers unceremoniously extinguished, the tranquil realms of the halflings have been starkly marred by this atrocious transgression.

Casting dark, chaotic spells, the mages left a trail of obliteration, engulfing joyous dwellings in a cruel inferno and demolishing the once idyllic landscapes that were synonymous with the homesteads of our stout-hearted brethren.

However, beneath the smoky ruins and amidst the sorrow, an unbreakable resolve emerges, as the halflings stand united, their spirits undeterred by the vile atrocity that has befallen their kin.

**Mobilization Amidst Mourning: A Tale of Valor Commences**

The subsequent mobilization of the halfling armies signifies a vehement declaration against the perpetrators of this heinous act. King Theodrin, visibly shattered yet undeterred, has pledged that the malevolent forces behind this massacre shall be met with fierce resistance.

As the halfling troops steadied themselves for the imminent challenges ahead, they sang, in harmony, the poignant and inspiring marching song:

*"March, march, brave little feet on a treacherous path,
Through darkness, pain, and Sauron’s wrath.
Sing, sing, of the Halfling lads so bold,
In our hearts, their epic tale forever hold."*

The stirring melody, recounting the timeless heroism of Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee, manifested into a beacon of hope and determination that permeated across the grief-stricken realms, signifying that the legacy of halfling courage shall endure even through the darkest epochs.

**Unity in Adversity: Allies, Stand Beside Us**

The dire circumstances have led to a fervent call for unity and camaraderie amidst the realms, as King Theodrin dispatches envoys, seeking solidarity against the dark malevolence emanating from the Underworld.

As the determined halfling forces forge ahead, a vigilant gaze from neighboring realms follows their path - a path where the fates of many shall be intrinsically intertwined with the deeds undertaken in the days to come.

Will the malevolent forces of the Underworld be held accountable for their merciless actions? Shall the departed souls of Utopia and Whisper Valley find solace in the retributive endeavours of the living?

The forthcoming chapters shall reveal a tale of either redemption or continuing peril, as the halflings tread a path where destiny and retribution collide.

**A Song for the Fallen, A Vow for the Living**

In memory of those who have fallen, the halfling realms stand united, vowing that the spirit of the departed shall perennially live on through the enduring courage and unyielding resolve of the living.

The March of the Brave Halflings

(Verse 1)
In the gentle hills of the Shire, two hearts were bound,
Frodo Baggins and Samwise, to the fiery mount they were crowned.
Underneath the vibrant sky, they took a step, bold and spry,
To Mordor's doom, they set their course, with spirit that none could force.

(Chorus)
March, march, brave little feet on a treacherous path,
Through darkness, pain, and Sauron’s wrath.
Sing, sing, of the Halfling lads so bold,
In our hearts, their epic tale forever hold.

(Verse 2)
Gandalf’s wisdom, Galadriel's light, guided through the perilous night,
Against vile foes, and treacherous friends, their willpower had no ends.
Through dark Moria’s ominous maze, and Fangorn’s ancient, whispering haze,
With every pace, a quiet plea, to save all folk, and set them free.

(Chorus)
March, march, through the shadow and the fear,
Hold tight, dear Sam, keep Frodo near.
Sing, sing, for the ring shall be no more,
As we stride to triumph, just like the lore.

(Bridge)
See the fiery mount, ablaze with doom,
A choice to make, in that cavernous gloom.
With friendship true, and bravery pure,
They conquered evil, of that, we’re sure.

The tiny hands that held the fate,
Of every soul, in every state.
Two Halfling hearts, so full of might,
Turned darkest day to brightest night.

(Verse 3)
Back to the Shire, under the party tree, where stories flow free like ale,
We sing of the daring, the will so rare, that guided them through despair.
Now, here we stand, Halflings of peace, marching to war, that all may cease,
With Frodo’s spirit, and Sam’s steadfast hand, we'll protect our beloved land.

(Chorus)
March, march, sons and daughters of the Shire,
With tales of old, our hearts inspire.
Sing, sing, as our feet tread on the lea,
For peace, for kin, for harmony.

(Outro)
In every step, echoes the journey afar,
Of Frodo and Sam, under sun, moon, and star.
We march, we sing, in unity we bring,
The tale of the ring, and the return of the king.

March, march, with mirth in our song,
For the brave of heart and the souls so strong.
And sing, dear kin, for our tale unfolds,
Of Halflings mighty, of Halflings bold.
Live your life so that the fear of death can never enter your heart, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes, they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.

### **BREAKING: Halfling Forces Deliver Resounding Blow to Underworld; Capture Tyrant King and Notorious Fanatics!**

In an audacious operation that will echo through the annals of Nyvarian history, the Halfling forces have seized a monumental victory against the malevolent Underworld, capturing its capital and several high-value targets, including the despotic Underworld King Richard Hawkins and the dread fanatic infamously known as the Halfling Slayer.

#### **A Mighty Clash on the Plains:**

In a tactical masterclass of strength, strategy, and unparalleled bravery, the Halfling army engaged and obliterated an Underworld division, revealing the sheer might of Nyvarian spirit against the dark forces which sought to mar its lands. These actions on unspecified plains have resulted in a significant destabilization of Underworld’s nefarious activities and have avenged countless Halflings who fell victim to their merciless incursions.

#### **Unveiling the Wicked: Capturing Richard Hawkins**

King Richard Hawkins, a tyrant whose rule in the Underworld has seen unspeakable acts of violence and brutality unleashed upon Halfling kind, has been captured in an astounding feat of military prowess. Under his despotic reign, numerous lives have been mercilessly snuffed out, villages pillaged, and the tranquility of our lands forever scarred. His capture signifies not only a triumph for Nyvarian forces but also an assurance to Halfling kin that the nightmares orchestrated by this war criminal are at an end.

#### **End of a Dark Chapter: The Capture of the Halfling Slayer**

Among the captured also lurked a being of particular malevolence: the notorious Halfling Slayer. This fanatic, reviled among our kind, has been responsible for countless atrocities against our people, cultivating a legacy of fear and anguish in his wake. His capture, therefore, represents the closing of a dark chapter, and more importantly, it showcases the indomitable resolve of the Halfling forces; even in the face of potent hatred, our spirit shall not be quelled.

#### **Strategic Triumph: Seizing the Underworld Capital**

Further etching this operation into legend, the seizing of the Underworld capital has provided the Halfling forces with a strategic upper hand. Through a calculated and spirited assault, our forces breached the town's formidable defenses, ensuring a thorough dismantling of the Underworld’s seat of power and a significant disarray among their remaining forces.

#### **A Beacon of Light Amidst Shadows**

With the malevolent leaders now stripped of their power and held to account, the Halfling realms bask, albeit momentarily, in a respite from the darkness that sought to engulf them. Our forces remain ever vigilant, ensuring that the dark forces that yet lurk in shadows shall find no quarter in our blessed lands.

In this triumph, Nyvaria finds solace and strength, weaving tales of heroism and camaraderie into its rich tapestry, illuminating a path of hope amidst an era marred by shadows. The Halfling spirit, unbowed and unbroken, perseveres, safeguarding the future of our kind and ensuring that the sacrifices of the past were not in vain.
Live your life so that the fear of death can never enter your heart, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes, they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.
