We have instituted a three consecutive turn trade rule before. Eliminates an undeclared alliance (who would attack a reliable trading partner). I am ok either way

3 turns in a row, then at least one off- that's a fine restriction on trades, imo.

I am going to email Brek in the morning and then set up the game in the queue for us to sign up. The idea is that we start it as a normal game, and Brek makes changes. I'll leave a message here when it is up.

It means that this game has no alliances, deals re PCs, non-aggression pacts etc, i.e. no diplomacy.

Trades of gold, food, mithril or artifacts are allowed, but you can only trade with a given partner for 3 turns in a row, then must take at least one month off.  The idea is a forever trade is basically an alliance, so no long-term trading arrangements. If you trade food for gold, for 3 months with kingdom A, you could not trade a fourth month. You could trade food with kingdom B, though.
