Game #107 Second, Second Cycle of Magic
#31
I have to say that I'm rather cross about this game. We had a situation where our WA player had to drop his games due to sudden personal issues. That can happen to anybody and I hope to play with him again soon, but for reasons I do not understand our wishes to have a standby player pick up his quite viable position were not honored. The end result is a huge and unfair advantage to the team we were in conflict with at the time. I'm not sure what I'm going to do - I'm as close to taking my marbles and going home as I ever get in a game, despite the fact that my individual kingdom is fairly strong. I think people know I'm a booster rather than a complainer, but I'm not at all happy about this.

Balls...
I did learn one thing from my "mentor".

I can vouch for that - DuPont is a great part of the community. And I understand not being happy about your teammate dropping late, although I'm sure he wishes circumstances were different also and I hope things are ok with him. This game just processed T24, whereas standbys are normally expected to be assigned by T6. Write to Cipher at support, he might have a suggestion.

Kevin, I'm not cross with you and your team and had you beaten us fair and square, I would have been happy to congratulate you. But now any victory you get will be completely hollow in my book. I'm fairly sure I'll never play another team game again despite having two good teammates in this one.

Not arguing at all - just razzing you a little. Team games are tough, this one especially... a few drops from players in decent positions.

I simply don't understand why viable positions can't be replaced with standbys just because it's after turn 6. It seems to me that at least the position should be offered - if a standby player chooses to pass after seeing what they would be taking over, fair enough. But the WA position was in control of a region with high level wizards - I would think any standby player would have been happy to take it. It's really too late to do anything now as 2 turns have now passed and the position likely wouldn't be suitable for a standby anymore.
I also didn't realize that individual victory was even possible in a team game, though I now understand it is. Which to me completely kills the point of a team game. I was playing with the understanding that the only path to victory was a team getting 7 regions and played with that in mind. If that's not the case, a team game seems utterly pointless to me.

I know none of our team are going to attempt an individual victory, along the same thought lines as yours... defeats the purpose. It's all or nothing for us. Two of us could likely have hit our SVCs by now (as I'm sure you could have as well).

I assumed someone would be picking up the WA position, and agree that it is a bummer that nobody has. With MN being a tough nut to crack and wizards almost as good as my RA wizards, there's still a little spunk left in him.

I'm Dupont's teammate and I have to say that I'm kind of bummed out here too. I sort of failed my morale check this time and didn't really check over my orders very well resulting in at least 3 errors that I should have caught. Trouble is, the game isn't very interesting to me at this point knowing that we are essentially hosed. This will most certainly be the last "forced team" game I play. We had a very viable team that may or may not have done well in the fight against our opponents. Now we'll never know, as the WA had to drop during a very vital moment and we got no standby nor an answer as to whether we could submit at least that last turn for our teammate.

Very disappointed.

Folks,

I completely synthesize.

I am happy to call this one a draw and move on if you guys decide you don't want to continue. I agree with both Victor and Joey - any victory now is hollow, whether we end up winning or the Neutrals pull across the finish line.

I believe Kevin, Steph and I would graciously accept a tie here.

Whether we continue on or not, this has been a very enjoyable game and I enjoyed the twists and turns.
