I just learned the hard way that even your own ward will prevent spells you cast on your own emmissary to fail. In this case, 2 conjure prestiges failed because of a standing order to ward my king.
Seems a little counter-intuitive to me, but wanted to share so others don't fall into the same bucket of fail I just fell in.

One of the fun parts with magic. Want the benefit? Then you need to leave your king exposed.
Similarly, a ring of protection can block a ward, etc.

In the old days my own Maintain Status Quo from the previous turn, thwarted a diplomacy of mine
I did learn one thing from my "mentor".

Here is another "Hard Way" Lesson.
Always remember: You are capped at SUSP in regions controlled by your natural enemy.
That tip will cost you 16,000 and a wasted King order if you forget.
Best of Luck!

I always thought it was capped at Tolerant. I didn't know that the natural enemy worsened it another level.
To me, this is a design flaw that helps negate the purpose of even having a natural enemy. It's just too difficult to attack them.

So the Giant has never been successful against the Witchlord?

That question should be asked differently:
So the Giant has never not been successful against the Witchlord?

The Giant is pretty much the only one we see regularly attacking a natural enemy and that's usually before the WI gains control of his region. How often has the Witchlord actually attacked the Giant?
How often to the Elves or Dark Elves invade one another's regions? The Sorcerer and the Warlock? The Gnome and the Dwarf? The Ancient Ones and the Demon Prince?
I would think that the game should encourage natural enemy fighting rather than discouraging it.

The order to Enamor states it clearly in The Commands:
"If a declared enemy controls the region that is being attempted to be enamored then you will be unable to become friendly as long as he maintains control. If your natural enemy gains control of a region it will lower your regional reaction in that region by two levels. As long as he/she controls the region the best regional reaction you can have in that region is Suspicious."
Shouldn't be mysterious.
Dark Elves hate Elves. This rule is to impose that idea, that it is very unlikely Dark Elves will win the hearts and minds of Elves. It does not preclude military victory or espionage and many ESO and Secret Victories require some element of dominance over a natural enemy.

I think the rule is fine. I just recently learned it the hard way and when I went to commands I realized I had overlooked that detail.
I asked some other experienced players about and they were not aware of it. So I figured it was worth a post.
You know the expression "learn from your mistakes". I tell my kids it is better to learn by observing the mistakes of others. It saves a lot on mistakes.
