Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. From my position I am always most interested in the Kingdoms rankings.  Firstly, I like seeing change in the rankings among the kingdoms, as we have.  The Elves have gone from being disdained to 2nd ranking, for example.  While the Giants are among the most feared, they are bringing up the rear.

The Witchlord is currently first, showing 4 wins, 4 seconds, and 6 bronze.  None of those lead any podium category, so Witchlord players seem to generally do well and not drop.

The Red Dragon has the most wins with 6 golds (again, this is just 12 and 15 player games), but is in 12th of 15 kingdoms.  An interesting paradox.

In 13th and 15th place are the Trolls and Giants at present, though they are tied for 2nd highest Golds at 5 each.

The Gnomes have the most Silvers with 9.  The Ancient Ones have the most Bronze with 7.

The Underworld is in 5th with 14 total podium finishes, although often not selected in Anonymous games.

The difference in total status points between 1st and 15th ranked kingdoms is about 40%.

These factoids are my kind of victories.

Interesting analysis. I love it when someone talks statistics...

I love reading the Valhalla stats to see who are the players to beat or which kingdoms need a win, because I enjoy the challenge of beating odds.

I tend to skim over total wins and total status points, since those are derived partly from how many games a person plays. I also tend to ignore status points per game, because they really don’t correlate to wins. In fact, I try to finish my games quickly and generally don’t worry about the items that add specifically to status points (unless my game is going to turn 40), so status points per game will actually be inverse for me to how well I do in a game.
If the play were random and the kingdoms equal, each player would win 6.66-8.5% of all classic games (15 player vs 12 player). Each player would also land on the podium 20-25% of the time.
So, I look for the players who defy those odds in the Valhalla sheets.
Personally, I think the most telling stats are the win % and podium % over all games played for players with at least 10 games. It would be nice if Valhalla could screen out the one-time hits that skew the stats in a couple of these categories. For instance, one player played one game, got a second place finish, left Alamaze, and will forever show 100% life-time podium rate.
For players with at least 10 games:
  • 7 of our players have won 25% or more of all classic games they have played (3-4 times the expectation), including Wynand with a ridiculous 39.1% win rate!
  • 7 of our players have reached the podium in 40% or more of all classic games played (twice the expected rate) – 5 of them are at or above 50%.
  • 6 of our players are in both of the above categories, with high win and podium percentages.
  • 2 of these players are above 30% and 50%, respectively (yes, HH, I am looking at you).
But I also look at the % podium stats over the last 10 games to see who is hot right now!!
In short, I love the stats because they help me paint targets (or choose allies). J
By the way, the only kingdom without a gold is the AN; we need to fix that.

Interesting, thanks for painting a target on me, err, for letting me know, that is. Smile

Seriously, I knew I was doing reasonably well, but I didn't know I was doing quite that well!
