#167 - New Player Primeval with Mentor

I actually use a map in Photoshop. For each game, I open a new layer and I have customized brushes for the various things I want to depict.

From what I read on the other thread, "Anonymous Steel - Mid February 2015" the Phoenix is not an option for the Black Dragons in this game?  Its on the setup so I just want to be clear.  Smile

Phoenix brigades are available for all Black Dragon kingdoms running on the new system (games 32, 166, 167, 300, + more coming). However, I don't have the final changes that Ry Vor wants for them (e.g., regenerate group's attrition similar to the Troll ability among other adjustments). I'll get to those later during the progress of this game.

What I need from the Black Dragon players is a bit of cooperation. One of the changes that I have to do is to only allow one brigade of Phoenix in a group at all times (so a max of 4 Phoenix brigades among the kingdom's 4 groups). If you have to combine/transfer groups for some reason, let me know and I'll manually adjust the number of PH brigades to be just one for the resultant group.

And don't recruit more than one Phoenix brigade in your group at the volcano's location!

If the BL players cooperate with me for the next few weeks or so until I get around to code the changes, Phoenix brigades will be permitted for play unless Ry Vor says otherwise.

So even though I don't have the Phoenix regeneration ability available right now, it's still valuable for the BL to pick one up since you're getting nearly a RD quality brigade that's pretty tough on its own. And the battle reports will look nicer too: Black Dragons get acid breath and Phoenix dragons get fire breath. More later...

Ok thanks for the update UncleMike.  I haven't even sent in turn 1 so at least on my end, you have lots of time to tweek the Phoenix to make it work like it should, if I get to the point of recruiting some I'll definitely follow the guidelines you've set here. Smile

I also want to say how awesome it is that the experienced players are so willing to help.  Thanks for those tips on the "A beginner's Guide to Alamaze"!   Between what I've read and re-read there, Tongue  and the tips I've read here and some of the other threads, I feel I kinda know what I should do for turn 1.  Again, thank you to everyone who has posted!

Alright,

So, I've looked at the map, read my turn. done a bit of research.

It appears I control a town and a village in Runnimede which appears to be my home region. Using Panda's point system, I have 3 points and need to get around 15.
-I need to get more PC.
--I have one level 4 agent
--3 groups in Runnimede
--4 wizards (3 -L1, 1 - L2)
--There is a City two sqaures away from my capital.

So:
-Agent uses his search for PC command
-Send the groups out on Search patterns
-No idea how I get the city... send the King to charm them with his smooth Gnome-Talk?

To take a PC(population center) with your political emissaries prince, duke, count etc.. The king does not take places over.
I will explain here but send you a tracker excel file that can do this number crunching for you.
Each emissary is given a strength or percentage of the kings influence. Example GN starts with 12 influence the count with a strength of 7.2 could then drive the city neutral order 320 and on the following turn use order 330 to take control.
Another way is send two emmies to the same city. In the GN case he could send a baron and count the first turn. Since the GN gets plus .15 to usurp the baron would be at a strength of 7.8 for a 320 and then on the same turn the Count could take control using a 330 order.

The rules and orders also explain this. But I know this is an area new guys always run into trouble until they get a good grasp on it.

I will knock them around and get them to post that up. Elf is super busy day times and dwarf has unpredictable stuff that pops up.

I will try to break down a few things to help get everyone on the same page.

You guys are starting in the 4 corners of the map.
EL - Elves in Oakendale Region 1 R1
DW - Dwarves in Talking Mountains R3
WA - Warlock in Amberland R5
GN - Gnomes in Runnimede R7
BL - Black Dragon in Southern Sands R10

All these kingdoms start with a town(capital) and village in there home region and then a 2nd town and 2nd village in other regions but the regions for these secondary PC does not change from game to game for these kingdoms see below. Everyone will start with there 1st group at their capital, 2nd group at the 2nd town in another region and third group in there home region village

Kingdom 1town 2town 1village 2village
EL. R1. R2. R1. R4
DW. R3. R6. R3. R2
WA. R5. R9. R5. R8
GN. R7. R4. R7. R8
BL. R10. R8. R10. R5

10 regions and 12 cities. Avalon is in R5 and Zarathon is in R8. So R5 and R8 have two cities.

In a perfect friendly beginning each kingdom would get two regions and would likely take the region with there secondary town as everyone except BL starts tolerant in that region. Also makes gaining control that much faster. This is for you guys to negotiate I will likely take a second region just to keep things balanced but have no real preference.

High council- because there are only 5 players and 5 spots on the council everyone will get on at some point. The last person for 1 gold. Plan accordingly. The first seat still has value but not as much as a standard 12-15 player game.

Artifacts - these are new to most everyone. will go more into these later but if your interested you can read parts of the active game 300 thread. http://kingdomsofarcania.net/forum/showt...26&page=25. Early on only look at easy and free. The other will be to hard until you get good leaders and or wizards.
