#167 - New Player Primeval with Mentor
#1
This is an ideal Primeval game: four players in their first game (at least since the Resurgence) and a top player as Mentor.  New players, do take advantage of the Mentor - ask lots of questions both via email, and perhaps here on the forum on this thread.  Your questions will help more players than just yourself.

Liberally. Just following instructions.

Yes I will edit the post later Smile

BL DW GN EL. This is where you post your contact information so others can reach you to talk about possible alliance or naps (non aggression packs). For primeval the first thing normally discussed even before T0 is who is going to take what as a second region.

Take advantage of the special ability only available to Gnomes (spell #603 is available at level 2). All other kingdoms get that at level 3. By turn 10, you can have the most resources on the board Smile.

Okay... first question... Maps. I see every is using a Powerpoint Map. My PPT skills are ridiculed across the wide Western United States. Is there an excel map? Do you guys print it out and work from there? Any map using pointers or tips?

I don't use the ppt map. I print one out and use a colored marker to show towns (T), villages (V) and unusual sightings (U). I also put a mark in every square I walked a group through and found no pop center, and then a big X if my group landed there or I did a 970 or 888 order and verified that there is no population center and no unusual sighting.
Separately, I use Excel to keep track of the total cities, towns and villages for each region as I gain control.
No right or wrong, just figure out what works best for you.

tools like this seem to be generally generated by users like us.  I share your PPT frustrations and would encourage you to develop and subsequently share an Excel Map.  I can use Excel well, but cannot program macros and the like that would likely be required.  Indeed, I cannot even envision how to go about it, but once developed Excel could be a very nice tool with its built in math functions..........

I would recommend if you do not like using PPT to print a map with the boarders. Then get Bananas parser program and input your turns into it. This will give your the data maybe needed from past turns but allow you to use your big map to plots things like where you moved and other things you feel you would like to keep track of.
For me the conferring to ppt came when I started messing with my turns at work and did not want to pull out a map of my alamaze game and put it out on my table.
