Weird Movies

From Dusk 'till Dawn....

I LOVE that sudden cahnge of genre halfway through...and OMG can Tarantino play a weirdo too well Smile

Heathers is another older one that kind of starts in one direction, switches and snowballs towards a finale that oozes cool.

Step away from movies...and into TV. If you've never seen the show League of Gentlemen (UK TV) you are missing an extremely uncomfortable piece of genius.

I would expect a former senior Blockbuster executive to be a movie lover. Smile I bet your VHS collection rocks!

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

Not to hyjack the thread but did anyone else think the burning scene on GoT went in af a weird direction?

Just a strange version of Stannis IMO.

He believes in the Red Priestess.  And he really wants the Iron Throne.  And everyone is starving, and the White Walkers are coming.

Still, that scene was tough to not bring a tear.  And overall though, that was probably the best episode of the season, especially the end.  I am expecting players to ask me when their Warlords can start riding dragons!

2) 13th Warrior: The best non DnD movie that is as close to DnD out there ( minus the hobbit).
3) I liked the Starship Trooper movie but it does have a lot of 3rd Reich over tones to it. (please do not judge me on my observations of this movie).
4) Inception:Fairly obvious ( I Think) are the overtones of what truly is reality and what is the reality of the mind vs reality of what is.
5) Dune: I hate reading, but I for some reason loved this movie and led me to read most of the books by Frank Herbert and his sons.  This also led me to play the Dune board game and all its official and unofficial expansions.  This game really reminds me of Alamaze and how different empires can work. If you play this game and have read the rules  of IX, The Tieliaxu, and the Lansraad, I really think this is what the potential Alamaze could become if you have players that really get in to the empire.

Too late ... you have been judged  Big Grin

And if you think the movie Starship Troopers is strange, then try the book.
I am the greatest swordsman that ever lived. Say, um, can I have some of that water?

(Instead of Arthur being much later in the high middle ages.)  You would enjoy Kingdom of Heaven if you haven't seen it.

On the theme of weird movies, I completely forgot about all the Zombie movies that have activist undertones.  Also, if you haven't seen "They Live", you might check it out.

They Live is a classic.
The bank scene and comment about being all out of bubblegum are priceless.

Dark scene for a dark character path.
It added a sense of realism in my opinion.

Stannis has finally fallen over the edge and the parting shot of his face may point to the fact that he now realizes this.

What about the dragon scene?  Did anyone else think that was poorly setup?

Rogal, Event Horizon.  Not too familiar.  13th Warrior, very familiar, don't own it, don't know how it made this thread.  Very impressed with the idea that Inception is "fairly  obvious".  Reflecting.
