I have had enough of the BS. I apologize to the others not associated with it but I am done. I am dropping all games, 182, 183, 175, 187, 174. I do not need the drama..................Airborne Ranger.

Believe me, I sympathize. I enjoyed the games we were able to play together, and best wishes to you personally, Zim.

Been a pleasure Zim. Sorry to see you go.

I moved the thread to the more appropriate section of the forums.
I hate that your 'drama' managed to reach such a state that you felt you needed to drop all your games, thus having an impact on all the uninvolved players who have, in some cases, dedicated months to their games. Personally, I have found that the drama only grows if I feed it. If I neglect to feed it, it dies out. Also, anonymous games have proven to be drama-free for me. I hate to see another active player go, but this is one of those hobbies that doesn't make sense if you aren't enjoying it. Lord Diamond
Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

I see this post has been moved from GD to Players. Interesting. While I suppose I can understand that call on a technical level, it still feels a little weird that a guy can't even leave the way he wants to leave. Kind of like adding insult to injury, I suppose.
EDIT: Cross-post with LD. As for the "uninvolved players" comment, first there is a standby mechanism (sometimes cited by Rick as value, although standby positions seldom seem to occur), and second I'm more sympathetic to the consumer's budget. Scouts to Imperators pay $300-$1,000 per year including setup fees for Alamaze, more than any other game I've heard of. Often more than a movie at the theater every single weekend. If a person gets so fed up (and again, I totally sympathize) that he is driven to quit, no way he should be expected to pay more monthly service fees on top of it. He's already losing the sunk cost of his setup fees, which is something you yourself have said that you sympathize with, LD.

Not to sound unsympathetic but if any of those positions needs a replacement I am game for a couple.
Fear casts a large shadow, yet he himself is very small.

See? There you go.

We or at least I play for fun. When it stops being fun I will probably stop playing, one the problems with our group is that it is small and thus it becomes hard to separate one game from another personally. For some reason myself and Airborne fought a lot in previous games and it does foster bad feelings, I purposefully did not perpetuate that into 183. I don't know where the "drama" is coming from but I can see it becoming too much. I for one will let my number of games decline a bit over time as my current level was a bit much but the game is great, the people are great but when you swim with sharks even if you fancy yourself to be one there is always a bigger shark or just one that has a better angle for the moment. I would suggest taking a step back and like LT did come back if when you fell better about the whole situation.

I moved the thread to the more appropriate section because I am the Forum Administrator and this is where this sort of thing goes. The description for General Discussion stipulates that it is for topics that don't fit anywhere else. It would have been perfectly appropriate to delete it entirely since this is a business website and that sort of thing certainly won't draw new players. If I stuck to that criteria, I'd never get anything else done! I can't imagine how anyone would think it an insult, but to each his own.
I'm not sure I get your point HH. I was expressing regret over AR having dropped and negatively impacted players in five games, most of whom aren't even aware of any drama. I have always expressed my feelings towards players who drop viable kingdoms and thus impacting the games of everyone else. Will the 'Rage Quit' be something he regrets in a couple weeks? I don't know anything about his reasons, but I do know that I am in at least one of those games and this is going to have an impact on my game play and my enjoyment of a game that started 4 1/2 months ago. It is sad that the drama, whatever it is, got so far. Lord Diamond

I thought my point was pretty clear... there is a standby mechanism to help alleviate problems associated with drops. It just needs to be utilized.
Separately, I don't think it's fair to try to dissuade a player who has already been so fed up (for valid reasons, I'd wager) that he's been driven to quit, by implying he's leaving other players in the lurch, especially when the monthly fees are significant and the player has already paid a setup fee he's now losing. The appropriate answer is the standby mechanism. |
