In all seriousness, how do you replace fallen wizards?

Unless you have an ESO that gives you a wizard...you don't. Which is why people get so extremely conservative with them.

I always thought there should be a way in-game to get a new Adept (albeit at great expense). But far as I know, there isn't one.

THE TROLL FORCES WERE INVIGORATED AND HAD THEIR MORALE RAISED AS THEY PREPARED TO FIGHT THEIR DECLARED ENEMY!
AS THE MOST IMPORTANT GROUP OF THEIR KINGDOM THE FIGHTERS ARE VISIBLY EMBOLDENED BY THE PRESENCE OF THE FIRST
TROLL'S BANNER!
AS THE MOST IMPORTANT GROUP OF THEIR KINGDOM THE FIGHTERS ARE NOTICEABLY HEARTENED BY BEING UNDER THE FIRST
ANCIENT ONES'S COLORS!
THE ANCIENT ONES COOLLY EFFECTIVE ARCHERS OF THE ANCIENT CAUSED TREMENDOUS CASUALTIES TO THEIR ENEMY. THE
TROLL POWER-1.0 WIZARD MEZLO MADE A SERIES OF INTRICATE GESTURES. HE THEN CREATED A POWERFUL WARDING, WHICH
WOULD PROTECT THE HEROES AND WIZARDS OF HIS FORCE FROM THE BLACK MAGICS OF ANY OPPOSING SPELLCASTERS. THE
TROLL POWER-1.0 WIZARD CIANCI WHILE SEEMINGLY DETACHED FROM ALL ELSE, SEEMED TO DRAW WITHIN HIMSELF AND BEGAN
TO INCANT. HE SOUGHT THROUGH HIS MAGIC TO STUN THE ENEMY COMMANDER, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE ANCIENT
ONES POWER-3 WIZARD IRIKHAN SLOWLY SPOKE IN AN ARCANE LANGUAGE, GESTURES BUILDING TO A CRESCENDO. IN RAPID
SUCCESSION WERE CAST MANY KILLING ILLUSIONS AND WAVES OF DEADLY COLD INTO THE HEART OF THE ENEMY FORCE. THE
ANCIENT ONES POWER-3 WIZARD IRIKHAN MADE A SERIES OF INTRICATE GESTURES. AN EXPANSIVE WALL OF FLAMING FIRE
APPEARED SEPARATING THE TWO FORCES. YET THE FEARLESS ENEMY WHILE ACCEPTING TERRIBLE LOSSES, CROSSED THROUGH
IT! THE ANCIENT ONES POWER-3 WIZARD DIA'DESRO BEGAN SORCEROUS INCANTATIONS IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE. WITH
CHILLING EASE HE FIRED MANY VOLLEYS OF KILLING ILLUSIONS AND WAVES OF DEADLY COLD INTO THE RANKS OF THE ENEMY.
THE ANCIENT ONES POWER-3 WIZARD DIA'DESRO WHILE SEEMINGLY DETACHED FROM ALL ELSE, SEEMED TO DRAW WITHIN

QUICKLY MARSHAL I ALEXANDER LED THE ANCIENT ONES LIGHT ARMORED BUT SKILLFUL HORSEMEN DOWN UPON THE TROLL
LINES. THE FEW CAVALRY DID NOT APPRECIABLY EFFECT THE OUTCOME OF THE BATTLE.
EACH FORCE WAS WELL SUITED TO THE DENSE FOREST, ON WHICH THE BATTLE WAS WAGED. NOW THE TIME HAD COME FOR
THE MAIN BODY OF EACH FORCE TO CLASH. THE ANCIENT ONES FORCE CAUSED MINOR CASUALTIES TO THE TROLL LINES.
IN RETURN THE TROLL HUGE, DARKLY SCALED TROOPS, WHICH BARED GREAT FANGS AND WIELDED MAULS CLAIMED APPRECIABLE
LOSSES TO THE ANCIENT ONES RANKS. THOUGH MUCH BLOOD HAD BEEN SPLIT AND THE FIGHTING HAD RAGED FOR HOURS,
STILL VICTORY HUNG BY A THREAD. THE BATTLE CONTINUED LONG PAST ALL EXPECTATIONS. BY NOW, THE FULL REMAINING
COMPLIMENT OF EACH FORCE HAD BEEN HURLED INTO THE FRAY, FEVERISHLY STRUGGLING AND BLEEDING THESE LONG HOURS
SEEKING THE GLORY OF VICTORY.
ANCIENT ONES CASUALTIES HAD NOW EXCEEDED ACCEPTABLE LEVELS IN THE JUDGEMENT OF MARSHAL I ALEXANDER SO HE
ORDERED THE RETREAT BE SOUNDED. THE ANCIENT ONES LEADERS DID A REMARKABLE JOB IN EXITING THE FIELD WITH
MINIMAL ADDITIONAL CASUALTIES. TROLL CASULTIES WERE SAID TO BE 7000 CREATURES. TROLL HEROES FOUGHT
COURAGEOUSLY. ALL TROLL LEADERS SURVIVED THE BATTLE. THE TROLL WIZARD MEZLO SURVIVED THE FRAY. THE TROLL
WIZARD CIANCI WAS SLAIN IN COMBAT. THE TROLL TROOPS ARE ANXIOUS FOR MORE VICTORIES: MORALE IS UP! ANCIENT
ONES LOSSES WERE ESTIMATED AT 2400 TROOPS. ANCIENT ONES HEROES BATTLED COURAGEOUSLY. ALL ANCIENT ONES

ASSAULT BY THE 1ST TROLL BRIGADES ON THE ANCIENT ONES TOWN OF OAKMONT, LOCATED IN <Redacted> LATE IN
THE AFTERNOON GENERAL BIGFOOT COMMANDED HIS 1ST TROLL BRIGADES TO ADVANCE UPON THE TOWN. IT WAS ALREADY KNOWN
THAT OAKMONT'S POSITIONING TOOK MAXIMUM ADVANTAGE OF THE SURROUNDING TERRAIN. MANY BULWARKS BUILT INTO THE
LAND OUTLYING THE FORTIFIED MAIN BATTLEMENTS, AND WELL POSITIONED LIGHT CATAPULTS AIDED THE DEFENDERS. AS THE
TROLL FORCE ADVANCED PAST THE NEIGHBORING WOODLANDS, THE BATTLE WAS JOINED. WEARY AND WOUNDED FROM AN EARLIER
CONFLICT, THE ATTACKERS WERE NONE THE LESS PREPARED TO SEIZE THEIR TARGET. INCREASING THE DEFENSES WERE HIGHLY
TRAINED UNITS FROM THE ROYAL GUARD! IT BECAME CLEAR TO THE ASSAULTING TROOPS THAT OAKMONT'S DEFENSES WOULD BE
BOLSTERED BY NOT ONLY THE THESE TROOPS' ADDITIONAL COMBAT ABILITIES, BUT ALSO BY THEIR ENHANCED TACTICAL AND
STRATEGIC PLANNING CAPABILITIES USED TO DEFEND THEIR CAPITAL. AMONG THE TROLL TROOPS WERE BRIGADES OF ORCS,
WHICH NOW RACED TO THE FRONT LINES! IN THE INITIAL MINUTES OF BATTLE, DEFENDING ARCHERS WERE AWESOME IN THE
TOTAL BLOODY HAVOC THE WRECKED UPON THE DISORGANIZED ATTACKERS. WAVE UPON WAVE OF ATTACKERS WAS OBLITERATED
BY ACCURATE AND TORRENTIAL FIRE FROM THE DEFENDERS UNTIL THE GROUP WAS DESTROYED AS A FIGHTING UNIT. FINALLY,
THE ATTACKERS WERE ULTIMATELY REPULSED.

Apparently so. They start out with a higher morale, but I read it that they get another "hidden" bump on top of that.

Honestly, there are so many variables to a battle I don't know why a "value in terrain" and a "value vs. pop center" are given. They don't use nearly all the data, far as I can tell, and thus are misleading at best.

I agree, but unlike Middle Earth, you can have a battle and have an option to retreat. In Middle Earth, all battles are "To the DEATH".

I agree, but unlike Middle Earth, you can have a battle and have an option to retreat. In Middle Earth, all battles are "To the DEATH".

One reason I hate Middle Earth PBM. Well, that and the fact that it completely, utterly, totally doesn't capture anything of the "flavor" of Middle Earth or Tolkien

I don't think they get anything special beyong the extra morale at the beginning. I believe the setup is referring to the fact that all rewards due to gaining the ESO or the Appeal to the Gods are assigned only to the first group. Meaning that you'd better have room for them if you don't want to lose anyone.

I seem to recall Phil mentioning way back when that he was going to give first groups a bonus (memory says 5% but that's just guesswork). He also mentioned tinkering with ways to get new adepts, but I don't think this was ever seriously looked into.

Good thing TR is getting his huge reinforcement bump to continue to chase the evil Ancient Ones. He's welcome to contact the benevolence that is the Demon Princes kingdom if he wants any pointers. Generally speaking, you can just overwhelm them. Wash, rinse, repeat. Take his capital while you're at it so I can get an influence increase. Thanks!

Either by fulfilling your ESO (if a wizard is one of the rewards) OR through an unusual sighting. I believe there is one where you receive a P-2 who joins your kingdom's forces.

Yep. 2xAN brigades vs. 5xTR and 3xOrc brigades. 2 Power-3's casting WoF and a Power-1 casting Valor. I lost 2400 or so, he lost 7000. Then after I withdrew he attacked my town and got wiped. Being the TR, he'll replace every one of those losses this turn using his insane reinforcement schedule. But his losing his 2 Power-1's has to hurt. (The cast a Stun Leader which failed, and a Shield, I think).

Wow, wall of fire is really effective!

Especially against TR since they take extra damage versus magic. Not so against BL/RD.
