How does this sound as a draft format.
With use of The Lord Diamond drafting service. Anonymous draft. Apprentices in random order would pick first then in reverse order masters would pick. LD would only provide the master with the kingdom there appreciate picked so they can take a complimentary kingdom and to avoid taking a natural enemy. When draft is done teams would be shown. Hopefully Dusi and DuPont are far enough apart the apprentices do not have to break them up.

Trying to create a board that everyone agrees is balanced. Not sure which 3 kingdoms you want to leave out. This will actually be my first game on the new map, BTW. I think I will assign the kingdom pairs and then the team can decide which goes to the Master and which to the Apprentice. Right now I am thinking the 3 non-selected kingdoms will be AN, DE and UN. So the remaining 12 all will have a natural enemy. Within that framework, I'm open to players suggesting what the pairs should be. (But not which pair they get.)

I think pairing magic with might, or two balanced kingdoms would be good.
SO/RA, WA/GI, EL/TR, WI/DW, DA/BL, RD/GN?

Pair suggestion:
WA/GI RA/SO BL/GN EL/TR WI/RD DW/DA This is assuming the point is to have the pairs close together. The WI/RD could also switch and be WI/DW and RD/DA but I like the first version better.

With region 8 fully open GI/wa may be to strong. And RA/so is rather weak

What about the GI/WA/UN out, then the middle is open for everyone to rush.
EL & TR WI & DW AN & GN DA & SO RA & BL DE & RD Each team has an "typical" un-contested region. And just remove the natural enemies all together. Or is that so hardwired in, that it would be troublesome? Also when it was said "Apprentice to be the one to claim victory by controlling 4 regions or getting to turn 40 - no secret victory." Do you mean the apprentice must control 4 regions, or the team controls 4 regions? Or maybe the team must control 5 for 3 turns? I'm just thinking out loud ![]()
I did learn one thing from my "mentor".
